Clever built its reputation on the clay field, and the T4 Bol D'Or is the shell that put them there. This 12 gauge load runs a 1 oz payload of #8 lead shot out of a 2-3/4" plastic hull at 1245 fps, which puts it right in the sweet spot for close-to-mid range target work. The #8 shot gives you a dense, even pattern that's tailor-made for skeet, closer sporting clays presentations, and trap singles where you want plenty of pellets in the kill zone.
What sets this shell apart is the component quality. Clever uses selected plastic cases and powders, quality primers, and cut wad technology to deliver a consistent pattern with roughly 93% of the shot staying inside a 75 cm circle at 32 meters. That translates to tight, repeatable patterns you can count on target after target. The powder burns clean too, which is a real plus if you're running a semi-auto and hate scrubbing carbon out of the action at the end of the day.
At 1245 fps with a 1 oz load, the recoil is noticeably mild, with up to 30% reduction compared to hotter loads. Clay shooters who've put thousands of these downrange consistently describe them as smooth and easy on the shoulder, which matters when you're shooting a full round or a long practice session. Less punch to the shoulder means a faster, more confident second shot on doubles and true pairs.
Clever is Italian-made ammunition with a serious competition track record, and the T4 line sits at the top of their target offerings alongside the gear top-level shooters train and compete with. If you shoot skeet, trap, or sporting clays and want a premium shell that performs like one, the #8 Bol D'Or is a dependable, hard-hitting choice that lets you focus on the target instead of the shell.
This #8 shot load is built for clay target shooting, particularly skeet, trap singles, and closer sporting clays presentations where a dense pattern shines. The smaller #8 pellets put more shot in the air for those close-to-mid range targets. It's a target load through and through, not a hunting shell.
It's notably soft. The 1 oz payload at 1245 fps combined with Clever's wad design cuts felt recoil by up to 30% versus hotter loads. Clay shooters who run full rounds and long practice days consistently praise how smooth and shoulder-friendly these shells are.
Yes. The clean-burning powder is a favorite among autoloader shooters because it leaves less residue in the action over a long day. The 1245 fps velocity carries enough energy to cycle most target-grade semi-autos without issue.
Both share the same 1 oz payload and 1245 fps velocity, so recoil and handling feel identical. The #8 shot has smaller, more numerous pellets for denser patterns at closer range, making it a great pick for skeet and shorter clays targets. The #7.5 carries a bit more energy per pellet for longer presentations.
