Description

If you've ever chased a wandering point of impact after clamping a laser to the front of your rail, the Midwest Industries Night Fighter was built with you in mind. Midwest took their proven free float platform and packed in more 6061 aluminum, tightening up the inner diameter to add wall thickness where it counts. The result is a rail that resists flex under load, which is exactly what you want when a pressure switch or an IR aimer is hanging off the muzzle end. At the same time, the outside stays a comfortable 1.5" so it still feels slim and natural in the hand.

What Makes the Night Fighter Hold Zero

The secret sauce here is the mounting system. The Night Fighter uses an extra-long 4140 heat-treated steel barrel nut measuring 2.250 inches paired with a patented heat-treated torque plate. That longer nut spreads the clamping load over more surface, locking the rail to the upper with very little play. Folks running theirs through hard-use classes have reported the rail taking knocks without their laser walking off zero, which is the whole point of a night fighting setup.

Mounting Room on the 10.5" Night Fighter

A continuous MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny top rail runs the full length for optics, backup irons, or forward-mounted aimers, and you get seven sides of M-LOK for lights, hand stops, bipods, and pressure pads. Two integral anti-rotation QD sling sockets are built right in, so your sling attaches clean without eating up an M-LOK slot. Midwest even tosses in a 5-slot polymer M-LOK rail section for the accessories that don't need a metal mount.

Installing the Night Fighter Handguard

This 10.5" length pairs well with 11.5" barrels and is set up for standard forged upper receivers. Install runs smooth since the barrel nut and wrench both come in the box, and the torque plate keeps everything indexed straight. The whole thing wears a Type III hardcoat anodized finish, is fully dehorned and deburred so there are no sharp edges biting your hand, and it's made in the USA and backed by Midwest's lifetime warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

What barrel length does the 10.5" Night Fighter work best with?

The 10.5" Night Fighter is set up to pair with an 11.5" barrel, giving you rail that runs out toward the muzzle for forward-mounted lasers and lights. Midwest offers 9.25" and 13.5" lengths as well for shorter and longer barrel setups. Just make sure your gas system and barrel profile clear the rail's inner diameter before you order.

Will the Night Fighter fit my upper receiver?

The Night Fighter is designed for standard forged AR upper receivers, which covers the vast majority of builds out there. Billet uppers vary in dimensions from maker to maker, so it's worth checking with your billet upper manufacturer before installing. It is also not intended for gas piston AR systems.

Why is the Night Fighter heavier than other Midwest rails?

The extra weight is by design. Midwest packed in more aluminum and a longer barrel nut to stiffen the platform, which cuts down on flex and helps your laser hold zero when it's mounted out front. If you're running an IR aimer or pressure switch on the end of the rail, that added rigidity is the trade-off that keeps your point of impact where it should be.

Do I need extra tools to install the Night Fighter handguard?

The barrel nut and the matching wrench both come in the box, and the patented torque plate keeps everything indexed as you tighten. You'll still want an armorer's vise block and a torque wrench for a proper install, which is standard for any free float rail. Users consistently report the install goes smooth and straightforward.
