Description
The Midwest Industries MICRL30815 is a 15-inch combat rail handguard cut for DPMS Low-profile 308 and LR-308 receivers, the ones with the .150" tang height. It free-floats the barrel so nothing touches your barrel except the barrel nut, which does good things for accuracy once you get it dialed. At right around 14.5 ounces, it keeps a full-length 308 build feeling manageable up front instead of nose-heavy.
The build itself is 6061 aluminum with a hard coat anodized finish, so it shrugs off the usual scrapes and holds up to weather without much fuss. You get M-LOK slots across three sides and a run of Picatinny along the top for optics and back-up irons, giving you plenty of real estate for lights, lasers, bipods, or a hand stop. Five anti-rotation QD sockets are built in for sling attachment, which is a nice touch when you're running a heavier rifle and want the sling to sit where you want it.
What Sets the MICRL30815 Combat Rail Apart
Midwest didn't skimp on the mounting system, and that's where a lot of budget rails fall down. This one uses a patented 4140 heat-treated torque plate along with an aluminum anti-rotation block and a 4140 heat-treated barrel nut threaded 1-7/16 x 16 for the DPMS pattern. That combo keeps the rail from clocking or shifting under recoil, and the top rail lines up clean with the receiver.
Getting the 15" Handguard Bolted On
One of the reasons folks keep coming back to Midwest is that they hand you the tools. The barrel nut wrench comes in the box, so you're not hunting down a proprietary tool halfway through the job. It's a straightforward install for anyone comfortable turning a wrench on their upper, and the fit and finish tend to leave people forgetting it wasn't factory equipment. Just note this is built for DPMS Low receivers and does not work with the DPMS G2.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the MICRL30815 fit my 308 rifle?
This rail is made for DPMS-pattern 308 and LR-308 uppers with the Low-profile receiver, meaning a .150" tang height. It uses the DPMS 1-7/16 x 16 barrel nut thread, so it won't fit true AR-10 or SR-25 pattern uppers, which use a different thread pitch. It also does not work with the DPMS G2, so double-check your platform before ordering.
How do I know if I have a DPMS Low or High receiver?
Measure the small tab that sticks up above the charging handle at the rear of the top rail. A Low-profile receiver measures about 1/8" (.150"), while a High-profile measures roughly 3/16". This MICRL30815 is the Low version, so that tab needs to measure around .150" for the top rail to line up correctly.
Do I need any special tools to install this Midwest Industries handguard?
The barrel nut wrench you need is included in the box, which is one of the reasons this rail is easy to recommend. You'll still want an upper receiver vise block and a torque wrench to do the job right. Beyond that, it's a straightforward install for anyone who's comfortable working on their own upper.
Can I mount a bipod, light, and sling on this rail?
Absolutely. You get M-LOK slots across three sides for lights, lasers, bipods, and hand stops, plus a Picatinny top rail for optics and irons. Five built-in QD sockets handle sling attachment, so you've got room to set up the rifle however you run it.
