The AK platform is a lot of things, but comfortable out of the box usually isn't one of them. The Midwest Industries Alpha Folding Stock fixes that in a big way, bringing the kind of adjustability and ergonomics you'd expect on a modern AR to your Kalashnikov. It bolts onto any AK-47, AK-74, or AKM that's running a 1913 Picatinny rail adapter on the rear, and once it's on, you get a stock that actually fits you instead of the other way around.
Built from a blend of high-strength polymer, aluminum, and 4140 heat-treated steel, the Alpha is made to take a beating. The side-folding mechanism is the star of the show here, giving you a positive lock-up in both the open and folded positions with no sloppy rattle when you shoulder it. It's fully reversible too, so lefties and righties can both set it up to fold on whichever side works best for their gun and their grip.
This is where the Alpha earns its keep. The polymer cheek riser adjusts up for a proper cheek weld when you're running an optic, and the five-position locking beam lets you change length of pull on the fly with a textured button. The butt pad adjusts as well, which is a real bonus if you shoot in a plate carrier or bulky winter layers. All of it moves without tools, so you can fine-tune your fit right at the bench or in the field.
Three QD sling attachment points give you plenty of flexibility for whatever sling setup you prefer, and the whole thing folds down to keep your AK compact for transport and storage. Extended, it adds about eight inches to your overall length, and folded it tucks in to add roughly three-quarters of an inch. It ships configured for rifle use and also plays nice with a Gear Head Works tailhook if you're going the brace route down the line. Yes. The Alpha mounts to a 1913 Picatinny rail interface, but it does not come with the adapter that attaches to your rifle. Your AK needs a 1913 rail adapter installed on the rear of the receiver, such as the Midwest Industries PEPA end plate adapter, before this stock will bolt on.
It does. The Alpha works with AK-47, AK-74, and AKM pattern rifles as long as they're set up with a 1913 rail adapter on the back. Since it mounts to the rail interface rather than the receiver directly, the specific caliber or variant doesn't matter.
Yes, the folding mechanism is fully reversible, so you can configure it to fold to the left or right depending on your preference and setup. Keep in mind that some end plate adapters, including certain Midwest tang-compatible models, may limit you to folding toward the ejection port side, so it's worth checking your specific adapter.
