The Midwest Industries G4M is a 13.375" one-piece free-float handguard built for AR-15 rifles that run a mid-length or slightly longer gas system. Machined from 6061-T6 aluminum and finished in a Type III hardcoat anodize, it's slim at just 1.5" outside diameter and comes in at around 10.6 ounces installed. That trim profile makes it comfortable to grip and easy to run with a light and a hand stop without feeling bulky, while the free-float design keeps everything off your barrel so accuracy doesn't take a hit from a mounted sling or bipod.
Accessory options are where this rail shines. You get a continuous MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny top rail that lines up with your upper for optics and backup sights, plus seven sides of M-LOK for lights, lasers, grips, and rail sections wherever you want them. It also has integral anti-rotation QD sling swivel sockets built right into the tube, so you're not eating up M-LOK slots just to run a sling. A 5-slot polymer M-LOK rail section comes in the box to get you started.
Installation is about as painless as it gets for a free-float rail. The G4M uses a patented 4140 heat-treated barrel nut and torque plate, and the barrel nut doesn't need to be timed, so you thread it on, torque it down in the 35 to 85 ft-lb range, and mount the handguard. Both the barrel nut and the wrench are included, so there's no scrambling for extra tools mid-build. It fits standard forged upper receivers and is designed for direct impingement guns. If you're running a billet upper, it's worth checking dimensions with your upper maker first.

This length pairs well with mid-length gas systems and works on rifles where the gas block sits comfortably under the tube. Since the rail is free-float, your gas block needs to be low-profile enough to clear the 1.3" inside diameter. If you're running an adjustable gas block, plenty of builders have had success, but it's smart to confirm your specific block clears before ordering.
Not really. The barrel nut and the correct wrench both come in the box, and the barrel nut doesn't require timing, which removes one of the trickier steps in a rail install. You'll want a torque wrench to bring the barrel nut into the 35 to 85 ft-lb range, plus your usual armorer's basics, and you're set.
It's designed for standard forged upper receivers, which covers the vast majority of AR-15 builds. Billet uppers vary in dimensions from one maker to the next, so if you have a billet upper it's worth checking fit with that manufacturer first. It's also built for direct impingement rifles rather than gas piston setups.
The G4M has integral anti-rotation QD sling swivel sockets machined right into the handguard at multiple points. That means you can run a QD sling without giving up any of your M-LOK slots. For the best fit, Midwest Industries QD swivels are the safe bet since a few users have noted that some aftermarket swivels don't seat perfectly.
