Description

The MDT Field Stock is one of the easier ways to wake up a stock Ruger 10/22 without sending it off to a gunsmith. It pairs a 6061 aluminum core with an overmolded polymer shell, so you get the rigidity of a real chassis and the warm-to-the-touch feel of a traditional stock. That combination matters more than it sounds, especially on a cold morning at the bench or in a deer blind when a bare metal chassis would freeze your hands. The FDE finish is a nice touch too, giving the little rimfire a look that fits right in with a lot of modern setups.

What the MDT Field Stock does for your 10/22

The accuracy story here comes down to two things: the aluminum V-block bedding and the free-floating barrel. The V-block is a precisely machined tapered channel that cradles your receiver and locks it into place, keeping contact consistent from shot to shot. Free-floating the barrel lets it vibrate the same way every time it fires, and that repeatability is what shrinks group sizes. Plenty of owners have swapped a factory 10/22 into one of these and noticed the difference on paper.

Dialing in the fit on the Field Stock

Fit is where this stock earns its keep for a lot of folks. Length of pull adjusts from 13.5 to 14.5 inches using the included 1/4-inch spacers, and there's a height-adjustable cheek riser that locks down with a toolless thumb screw once your eye lines up behind your optic. Getting your head in the same spot every time helps you find targets faster and stay consistent. Worth knowing: changing the buttstock spacers means pulling the action, and the cheek riser holds best when you snug that thumb screw down firmly.

Building it out your way

Installation is genuinely simple. You drop the action in, torque down two screws, and you're ready to head to the range. The M-LOK forend has slots at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions, and the included sling swivel studs mean you can add a bipod, a sling, or a rail without hunting for extra hardware. It works with your standard 10/22 magazines and factory-style clones right out of the box, so nothing about your feeding setup changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the MDT Field Stock hard to install on a Ruger 10/22?

Not at all, and that's a big part of the appeal. You drop your action into the chassis and tighten two screws with an Allen key, no gunsmithing required. Most people have it done in a few minutes on the kitchen table and are ready to shoot the same day.

Will my factory Ruger 10/22 magazines still work in the Field Stock?

Yes. The Field Stock is built around standard Ruger 10/22 magazines and factory-style clones, with the magazine latch integrated into the bottom metal. Your existing rotary mags and other standard magazines will feed just like they did in the original stock.

How does the MDT Field Stock actually improve accuracy?

It comes down to the aluminum V-block bedding and the free-floating barrel. The V-block cradles your receiver in a machined, tapered channel that keeps the action locked in the same spot every time, while the free-float lets the barrel vibrate consistently shot to shot. That repeatability is what tends to tighten up groups compared to a factory stock.

Can I add a bipod or sling to the Field Stock?

Absolutely. The forend has M-LOK slots at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions, and the chassis ships with sling swivel studs already included. That gives you an easy path to run a sling, a bipod, or an M-LOK rail without tracking down extra parts.
