The MDT Field Stock is one of the simplest ways to get real accuracy gains out of a factory Savage Axis short action without ever picking up a torque wrench for hours of gunsmithing. At its core is a 6061 aluminum V-block bedding system wrapped in an overmolded polymer body, which gives your action solid, repeatable contact and lets the barrel free-float the way it should. That combination is what tightens up groups, and it's the same bedding principle MDT built its reputation on with pricier chassis.
Installation is about as painless as it gets. You drop your barreled action into place, snug up two screws, and you're done, no inletting or special tools required. The polymer body is warm to the touch on cold mornings, which anyone who's hunted late season with an aluminum chassis will appreciate, and at roughly 3.1 pounds it stays light enough to carry all day in the timber.
This is where the Field Stock earns its keep. It converts your rifle to run AICS-pattern detachable magazines with no extra bottom metal to buy, and the ambidextrous mag release is easy to work from either side. The forend is flat-bottomed with M-LOK slots on the bottom and both sides, so mounting a bipod, ARCA rail, or weights is straightforward. Sling swivel studs come installed on both the forend and buttstock, and they pop off if you'd rather run something else.
