If you've been running 6BR or 6 Dasher on AICS-pattern actions, you know the challenge. Standard .308 AICS magazines need modification kits to feed the shorter, fatter 6BR case properly, and even then they're often finicky. MDT engineered this magazine specifically to solve that problem. It's a steel magazine designed from the ground up for 6BR, 6BRA, 6 Dasher, and 22BR cartridges with the chamber pressure and ballistics these cartridges deliver.
The real difference is MDT's Double Stack to Single Feed (DSSF) transition design. Instead of the standard single stack from the bottom, rounds are carried in a double stack that transitions smoothly to single feed at the top. This means the magazine is about 3/4 inch shorter in height compared to standard 10-round AICS designs, which matters when you're shooting prone. Mag changes become noticeably easier from that position, and the reduced profile keeps your rifle balanced better in a bag. The 12-round capacity gives you more ammunition between reloads, which fits well with most precision rifle competition formats that favor 12-round stages.
The construction is all business. High-strength steel body that's nitrided for corrosion resistance, then finished inside and out with Cerakote Elite. That dual approach handles both external weather and internal friction. Two internal ribs guide rounds smoothly through the double-to-single feed transition and reduce friction between the cartridge and magazine body. This results in reliable feeding without the friction problems that plague improvised solutions. Maximum cartridge overall length is 2.580 inches internally, which accommodates virtually any 6mm bullet weight you'd want to use for competitive or precision work.
This magazine works with any rifle using AICS-pattern bottom metal or chassis system, though some standard actions may require minor feed lip tweaking. Three-lug actions typically need modification to work reliably. If you're running one of MDT's own chassis systems, compatibility is guaranteed.
