Description

The MDT Oryx Sportsman Chassis is built to take a factory Tikka T3 or T3x short action and turn it into something that feels a whole lot more serious behind the trigger. It's machined from a single block of 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum with a MIL-Spec Type III hard anodized finish and OD Green polymer side panels, so you get real rigidity without the flex you feel in a stock plastic stock. The action beds on an aluminum V-block while the barrel free floats, which is exactly what you want for repeatable groups.

What the Oryx Sportsman Does for Your Tikka

Dropping your barreled action into this chassis is about as simple as it gets. Pull your rifle out of the factory stock, set it into the Oryx, and snug down the two included action screws. Most people have it done in under ten minutes with no gunsmithing and no bedding compound. The magazine well is cut for AICS-pattern magazines, so your internal-box Tikka gains detachable mag capability. Keep in mind the Tikka short action feeds from 3.560 length AICS-style magazines, and those are sold separately.

Dialing In Fit and Adding Gear

The integrated buttstock adjusts for length of pull and comb height, so you can get a proper cheek weld and a natural reach to the trigger. It runs from about 13 to 13.5 inches of pull, and the spacer kit lets you stretch that further if you need it. An overmolded rubber pistol grip comes installed, and the interface accepts standard AR-15 grips without a beavertail if you'd rather swap in a favorite. The M-LOK forend takes bipods, ARCA rails, QD sling mounts, and whatever else your setup calls for.

At right around 4.2 pounds, the Oryx adds some heft, and that weight works in your favor by soaking up recoil and settling the rifle for longer shots. It's a favorite among coyote and hog hunters as well as folks getting into PRS and long-range work who want the upgrade without going overboard.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Oryx Sportsman Chassis fit both the Tikka T3 and T3x?

Yes, this short-action inlet is a drop-in fit for right-hand Tikka T3 and T3x rifles. You simply pull the barreled action from your factory stock and secure it in the chassis with the included action screws. Most installs take under ten minutes and need no gunsmithing.

Does the chassis come with a magazine?

No, magazines are sold separately. The mag well is cut for AICS-pattern magazines, and the Tikka short action uses the 3.560 length. Magpul PMAGs and AICS-style metal mags in the correct length both work well here.

Can I swap out the pistol grip on the Oryx?

The chassis ships with a comfortable overmolded rubber grip already installed, but the interface accepts standard AR-15 grips as long as they don't have an extended beavertail. That means you can drop in a favorite grip if you'd like. The forend is also M-LOK, so bipods, ARCA rails, and QD sling mounts all bolt right on.

How much does the Oryx Sportsman Chassis weigh, and how does that affect shooting?

It runs about 4.2 pounds, which is heavier than a factory stock. That added mass helps soak up recoil and keeps the rifle steady for longer shots, which is why it's popular for both precision matches and hunting from a tripod or bipod. If you carry a lot on foot, factor the weight into your setup.
