Description
The MDT LSS Gen3 chassis base is the starting point for a fully custom Ruger American Long Action build, cut for a right-hand action and finished in black. This is the center body, the piece your barreled action bolts into and the piece everything else builds off of. Rather than buying a complete chassis and hoping it fits your plans, you start here and add the forend, buttstock interface, buttstock, and grip that match how you shoot. Machined from 6061 aluminum and wearing a durable Cerakote finish, it walks the line between real rigidity and a weight that won't wear you out in the field.
Why the LSS Gen3 Base Is Built the Way It Is
MDT reworked the LSS platform around a modular, multi-piece architecture so you can retune the rifle without pulling the action. Want to go from a trimmed-down hunting setup to a weighted competition rig? Swap the forend and add weight. Need better ergonomics for a long prone session? Change the buttstock. Because the action stays put in the center base, you keep your optic zero through all of it, which is the whole point of the Gen3 design and a big reason the platform can replace several older MDT chassis in one shot.
Getting Your Ruger American Into the LSS Gen3
Installation is a genuine drop-in job with no bedding and no gunsmithing. You pull the barreled action out of the factory stock, set it into the chassis, torque the action screws to spec, and you're done, usually in well under fifteen minutes. The chassis converts your Ruger to detachable AICS-pattern magazines and includes MDT's ambidextrous mag latch, so mags drop free with a push of your trigger finger. It's also compatible with the MDT Adjustable Mag Latch if you want to fine-tune fit.
Building It Out Your Way
One thing worth knowing up front: this is the base only. Forends, buttstock interfaces, buttstocks, and AR-style grips are chosen separately, which is what makes the system so flexible. The base accepts standard AR-15 pistol grips, and MDT offers Competition, Hunting, and Tactical forends along with XTN, Carbine, and Picatinny interface options. Keep in mind the Ruger-specific interface assemblies are required for correct fitment on this platform. Start lean, then grow the build as your needs change.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the MDT LSS Gen3 chassis come with a buttstock, forend, and grip?
No, this listing is for the LSS Gen3 chassis base only, which is the center body your Ruger American Long Action bolts into. Forends, buttstock interfaces, buttstocks, and grips are selected and purchased separately so you can tailor the build to your use. The base accepts AR-15 style pistol grips, and MDT offers Competition, Hunting, and Tactical forend options.
What magazines does the LSS Gen3 use with a Ruger American?
The chassis converts your Ruger American to detachable AICS-pattern magazines, which are widely available and a standard in the precision world. It ships with MDT's ambidextrous mag latch for drop-free releases and is also compatible with the MDT Adjustable Mag Latch. That means you can leave the factory blind or hinged magazine setup behind.
Is installing the LSS Gen3 chassis difficult?
Not at all. It's a true drop-in with no bedding or gunsmithing required. You remove the barreled action from the factory stock, set it into the chassis, and torque the action screws to spec, which is usually a job of well under fifteen minutes with basic tools.
Will this chassis let me swap parts without losing my zero?
Yes, that's the core advantage of the Gen3 design. Because your barreled action stays seated in the center base, you can change forends, buttstocks, and interfaces without pulling the action, so your optic zero stays put. It's what lets one chassis move between hunting, tactical, and competition setups.
