The MDT HNT Folding Buttstock started life as the rear end of MDT's flagship HNT26 hunting chassis, and now it comes as a standalone piece you can bolt onto other XTN-interface builds. This is the carbon fiber, foam-filled version that mountain hunters have been asking about, built to shave ounces off the back of the rifle without giving up the adjustability you'd expect from a chassis stock. At roughly 16 ounces in the folding configuration, it's about as light as a fully adjustable buttstock gets.
The shell is a foam-filled carbon fiber core, and that construction does more than just cut weight. The foam fill deadens vibration and softens felt recoil, giving the rifle a more dead, settled feel after the shot. It also quiets things down, so you're not broadcasting your position every time the stock brushes against a rock or a pack frame. Titanium hardware throughout keeps the corrosion resistance high and the ounces low, and the carbon touch points don't get bone-cold like an aluminum stock in freezing weather.
Fit is handled with a spacer-based length of pull system and an adjustable cheek piece, so you can set your eye behind the scope the same way every time. Depending on which chassis it's riding, LOP lands in a practical range roughly from the mid-13-inch to the low-15-inch mark, and the cheek riser adjusts up as well. The folding side sits on the non-bolt side, so it tucks in flat for backpack carry or bush-plane travel without getting in the way of the action.
This buttstock is designed around MDT's XTN interface and plays nicest with the LSS GEN3, ACC Elite, and ACC Premier GEN2 chassis, along with the HNT26. MDT built a Short XTN adapter to open up tighter LOP ranges on compact builds. It's meant for right-handed, non-bolt-side folding setups, so check your chassis interface before pulling the trigger on a purchase.
