When MDT set out to build a chassis strictly for hunters, the HNT-26 was the result, and it shows in every ounce. This version drops onto a Remington 700 long action and combines an AZ61A magnesium alloy base with a carbon fiber forend, carbon fiber grip, and a foam-filled carbon fiber buttstock. That mix of materials is what lets a full-featured chassis stay so light, with the complete package starting around 26 ounces and landing near 31 ounces once you add the folding stock and ARCA forend like this one has. For a backcountry rig that still shoots like a chassis, that is hard to argue with.
The carbon fiber touch points do more than shave weight. They take away that cold-to-the-touch feel you get from an all-metal chassis on frosty mornings, which your hands will thank you for on a first-light stalk. The whole shape was drawn up to cut down on snag points too, with smoothed contours and a low-profile magazine latch that tucks into the trigger guard so nothing catches on brush, slings, or the inside of a pack. The foam-filled buttstock also deadens vibration and felt recoil, which helps you settle back in for a follow-up shot.
Underneath the light weight is a real chassis with a v-block bedding system and a free-floating barrel that will clear diameters up to 1.25 inches. Length of pull adjusts through a spacer system starting at a 12.5-inch minimum, and the vertically adjustable cheek riser with a soft-touch foam pad gets your eye lined up behind glass. It accepts AICS-pattern magazines, feeds AR-style grips, and includes front and rear QD and sling swivel mounts. The folding buttstock collapses the whole rifle down for packing on horseback, in a pack, or on a bush plane, and the integral ARCA rail lets you clamp straight onto a tripod without an adapter.

This model is cut for a right-hand Remington 700 long action. It works with a wide range of calibers built on that footprint, right up through the large magnums like the .338-378 Weatherby. You supply the barreled action to complete the build.
The HNT-26 platform starts at about 26 ounces in its lightest fixed configuration. This folding ARCA version sits near the top of that range at roughly 31 ounces for the chassis, buttstock, forend, and grip combined. That is still lighter than a lot of traditional stocks.
The chassis accepts standard AICS-pattern magazines, so you have plenty of readily available and affordable options. It also takes most AR-style grips, though MDT designed it around an ultralight carbon fiber grip. Pick your mag and grip to round out the build to your liking.
Yes. This version has an integral ARCA rail machined right into the carbon fiber forend, so you can clamp straight onto an ARCA tripod without adding an adapter. The forend also carries M-LOK slots and a QD mount for bipods, slings, and other gear.
