The Maxim Defense SCW Stock Gen7 was built for folks who want the smallest possible footprint on their AR-15 without giving up a real cheek weld. Closed up, it only tacks on 4.0 inches of length behind the receiver, and when you need to stretch out it opens all the way to 8.8 inches. There are no buttons or levers to hunt for. You just grab it and pull to deploy, which is about as fast and fumble-free as it gets when you're transitioning from a stowed setup to shouldered and ready.
This is a full system, not just a chunk of aluminum you clamp on. The complete kit pairs the SCW stock housing with a proprietary standard weight buffer, matching buffer spring, and a shortened bolt carrier group that's tuned to cycle inside that compact envelope. That integrated buffer-and-carrier design is the whole reason it can collapse so short. The tradeoff is that it runs on its own parts, so it won't work with a standard AR-15 buffer tube assembly. Plan on using the pieces that come in the box.
You get five positions to work with: 4.0 inches closed, then 5.25, 6.5, 7.75, and 8.75 inches as you extend. That range lets you dial in length of pull for different body sizes, plate carriers, or heavy winter layers. The housing is machined from 7075 aluminum alloy and wears a mil-spec anodized finish, so it holds up to real handling. It installs on any mil-spec AR-15 lower and is rated to run 5.56, 7.62×39, and .300 Blackout, which covers the most common short-barrel and compact builds people put a stock like this on.
Because it's a matched system, the standard weight buffer works well for most standard gas setups, but heavily gassed or suppressed guns sometimes benefit from a heavier buffer swap down the road.
