There is something about a tactical rimfire done right, and the Mauser M-15 SD in bronze nails the look without draining your ammo budget. The steel receiver wears a bronze finish set against black furniture, and the 16.5 inch barrel is capped with a faux suppressor that gives the rifle its distinctive full-length profile. It runs on .22 LR, so a full afternoon at the range costs less than lunch, and the 22-round magazine means you spend more time shooting and less time loading.
The M-15 SD carries its controls where AR fans expect them, which makes it a genuinely useful understudy for a centerfire rifle. You get a side charging handle, a manual thumb safety, and flip-up front and rear sights that fold down flat when you mount a red dot or scope on the receiver rail. The side-folding stock includes an adjustable cheekrest, so you can dial in a proper cheek weld whether you are running irons or glass, and folding it down makes the rifle easy to tuck into a range bag or truck safe.
Like most semi-auto rimfires, this one runs happiest on high-velocity .22 LR ammo. Standard velocity target loads can be hit or miss for cycling in blowback rimfires, so stick with quality high-velocity rounds and give it a couple hundred through the tube to break in. Take a little care seating rounds in the magazine and the rifle rewards you with smooth, consistent cycling.
At around 6.45 pounds with a 34.5 inch overall length, it handles like the real deal without the recoil or the ammo bill. New shooters can learn the manual of arms without flinching, experienced folks can burn through drills on the cheap, and everyone has a good time knocking over steel. The bronze finish just happens to make it one of the better looking rimfires on the rack while it does all that.
No, it is a faux suppressor, meaning it is a cosmetic barrel shroud that gives the rifle its distinctive profile. It does not reduce sound and requires no paperwork. The rifle still has a true 16.5 inch barrel underneath.
Yes. The rifle has an optics rail on the receiver, and the flip-up front and rear sights fold down out of the way so they will not clutter your sight picture. The adjustable cheekrest also helps you get proper eye alignment behind an optic.
High-velocity .22 LR is the way to go. Blowback semi-auto rimfires rely on the round's energy to cycle the action, and standard velocity target loads sometimes come up short. Quality high-velocity ammo from a reputable maker will keep it running smooth, especially after a short break-in period.
It does. The side-folding stock collapses against the receiver for compact storage and transport, which is handy for range bags and smaller safes. It also features an adjustable cheekrest so you can fine-tune your fit for irons or an optic.
