Description

Some rifles just feel right the second you shoulder them, and the Marlin 1894 Trapper is one of them. At 33.25 inches overall and 6.3 pounds, this little carbine carries like a dream whether you're working a trapline, hiking into deer camp, or keeping it handy around the property. It runs .357 Magnum or .38 Special through an 8-round tubular magazine (nine if you're feeding it .38s), so you can train cheap with soft-shooting .38s and load up magnums when it counts.

Built the Way a Trapper Should Be

The Trapper series came out of feedback from Alaskan hunting and fishing guides who wanted something short, quick, and tough enough to shrug off rough weather. Marlin delivered. The receiver, lever, and trigger guard plate are CNC machined from 416 stainless steel forgings, and the 16.1 inch cold hammer-forged stainless barrel gives you precise rifling that holds up over the long haul. The black laminate stock stays dimensionally stable when the weather turns, and sharp checkering keeps it planted in wet hands. Sling swivel studs and a soft rubber buttpad round out a package that was clearly designed by people who spend time outside.

Skinner Sights and a Threaded Muzzle From the Factory

Instead of basic buckhorns, this 1894 wears a Skinner Bear Buster front blade paired with a receiver-mounted Skinner Trapper peep that's fully adjustable. It's a fast, uncluttered sight picture that works great in timber and close-range situations. The muzzle comes threaded 1/2×28 with a match-polished thread cap, so adding a brake or other muzzle device is a five-minute job.

Living With the 1894 Trapper

The oversized lever loop cycles smoothly even with heavy gloves on, and the offset hammer spur makes cocking easy if you decide to mount an optic later. Between the push-button cross-bolt safety and traditional half-cock hammer, you get familiar lever gun manners with modern touches where they matter. If you've been waiting for a pistol-caliber lever gun that earns its keep, this one is tough to beat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Marlin 1894 Trapper shoot .38 Special as well as .357 Magnum?

Yes, and that's one of the best things about it. The tubular magazine holds 8 rounds of .357 Magnum or 9 rounds of .38 Special, and the action is designed to feed a wide range of factory loads in both cartridges. A lot of owners run affordable .38s for plinking and practice, then switch to full-power magnums for hunting or home defense.

Is the 1894 Trapper's barrel threaded from the factory?

It is. The 16.1 inch cold hammer-forged stainless barrel comes threaded 1/2×28 and ships with a match-polished thread cap installed. That makes it easy to add a muzzle brake or other muzzle accessory without a trip to the gunsmith.

What sights come on the Marlin 1894 Trapper?

This model wears upgraded Skinner Sights right out of the box, with a Bear Buster front blade and a receiver-mounted, fully adjustable Trapper peep rear. Peep sights like these are quick to pick up and work really well for close to mid-range work in the woods. The offset hammer spur also leaves room if you decide to add an optic down the road.

Who makes the Marlin 1894 Trapper now?

Marlin is owned by Ruger, and these rifles are American made under Ruger's production standards. The receiver, lever, and trigger guard plate are CNC machined from 416 stainless steel forgings, and fit and finish on the new production 1894s has earned a strong reputation. You get the classic 1894 design backed by modern manufacturing.
