The Zhukov-U is what you reach for when the full-length Zhukov is just a little too much handguard. Magpul shaved 1.5 inches off the original to fit shorter barrels, pistols, and SBRs, and that trim also frees up space so you can keep the military-issue cleaning rod tucked under the barrel. On a full-size rifle it still works great and keeps the front end feeling a touch livelier in the hands.
Underneath the plum polymer shell sits a full-length, hard-anodized aluminum chassis that clamps straight to the barrel. That setup does two jobs at once: it gives you a rock-solid, flex-free mount and it acts as a real heat shield, so long strings of fire don't cook your support hand. The injection-molded exterior is where the comfort comes from, with an ergonomic shape that handles a whole lot nicer than stock AK wood or plastic.
This handguard runs the M-LOK system with slots at the 2, 6, and 10 o'clock positions, so you can hang lights, lasers, hand stops, or short rail sections right where you want them without adapters or bulk. It also plays nice with the UltiMAK gas tube rail if you're planning to run an optic up top, and it ships with a matching vented polymer gas tube cover to keep the classic AK look intact.

Before you commit, measure your barrel diameter under the handguard and make sure it lands between 16.75 and 18.25mm. Installation calls for removing the factory handguard retainer, and because AKs vary so much from build to build, a little minor fitting is normal. Note that it won't work with Yugo-pattern rifles or RPK-style receivers, and barrels under 11.5 inches aren't recommended. Made in the USA.
