Fabric wrap-style covers help until they start smoking, and then you have a new problem. Magpul went a different direction with this one, and it shows.
Instead of just wrapping insulation around the tube, this cover uses a raised stainless steel heat shield that clamps directly to the suppressor body with two steel clamps, then layers a high-temp polymer sleeve over the top. The standoff design leaves air gaps between the shield and the sleeve, so air keeps moving across the can and it sheds heat faster instead of trapping it. The result is an outer surface that stays up to 1000 degrees cooler than the suppressor itself, which means less mirage in your scope, a reduced thermal signature, and a much lower chance of cooking yourself or your gear during firing and cool down. Magpul tested it to SOCOM abuse requirements with surface temps north of 1300 degrees, so sustained semi-auto and full-auto strings are exactly what it was built for.
This version is sized for round suppressors with a 1.5 inch outer diameter and a body length of about 5.5 inches, not counting the mounting hardware. The SureFire SOCOM556-RC2 is the textbook fit, but plenty of similar rifle cans in that size range work too. Grab a set of calipers and measure your suppressor body before ordering, since the clamp interface counts on that 1.5 inch diameter to lock down solid.
