A shotgun without a good sling gets heavy fast, and running a barrel clamp is the cleanest way to add a front attachment point to a pump gun. The Magpul Forward Sling Mount does exactly that. It clamps onto both the barrel and the extended magazine tube of your Remington 870 or Mossberg 500/590/Maverick, giving you a stable, secure spot up front to run a sling. Because it bridges the barrel and mag tube, it does double duty by snugging up the extended tube at the same time.
This is not the polymer you might expect from Magpul. It's precision cast steel with a Melonite (QPQ salt bath nitride) finish, so it holds up to wear and corrosion and takes a beating in the field or on the range. The black finish matches Magpul polymer furniture nicely if you're building out a full setup. It's made in the USA, and the fit and finish feel a step above the cheap stamped clamps floating around out there.
This is where the mount earns its keep. It accepts push-button QD sling swivels on either side, or you can run one-point clip-in attachments like the Magpul Paraclip, the HK hook, or the ITW MASH hook. Set it up with dual QD cups, or mix a QD on one side and a hook on the other depending on how you carry. That flexibility means it plays nice with just about any modern sling you'd want to hang off a defensive or hunting shotgun.
A couple things worth knowing before you wrench it on. The mount ships with silicone pads that sit between the clamp and your barrel so you don't mar the finish, which is a nice touch. It's a dedicated fit for the 870 and Mossberg 500/590/Maverick with an extended mag tube. If you're running a Mossberg 590A1 with its heavier barrel walls, you'll want the MAG493 version instead.
