The Magpul PRS Lite takes the precision-adjustable stock idea and strips it down to what most people building a bench gun or a semi-auto long-range rig really need. It gives you a rock-solid cheek weld and repeatable fit, but it does it in a package that comes in around 18 ounces, which is roughly 10 ounces lighter than the PRS GEN3. If you've handled a GEN3 and thought it was overkill for your build, this is the sweet spot.
Adjustment is where this stock earns its keep. You get 1.4 inches of length-of-pull spread across 10 increments and 0.8 inches of comb height in 8 increments, so you can line up your eye behind the optic and get your shoulder squared away every single time. One nice touch borrowed from the UBR design is that when you change length of pull, the cheek riser and forward section stay put, so your face position stays consistent. The trade-off for the lighter weight and lower cost is that adjustments lock down with hex wrenches instead of the toolless knobs on the GEN3. That means it's not something you flip around on the fly, but once it's set, it stays put and does not budge under recoil.
This one fits Mil-Spec USGI carbine, collapsible SR25, and A5-length receiver extensions on 5.56 and .308 pattern rifles. Worth knowing up front: it will not work on rifle-length A2 tubes, and the fit depends on your end plate too. A protruding QD end plate or certain aftermarket buffer tubes with scalloping can keep the stock from sliding forward enough, so plan on running a standard USGI-style flat end plate. Swapping one out only takes a few minutes if you've got the tools.
Rugged polymer and metal construction handles heavy recoil and rough handling without complaint, and the low-profile rubber butt-pad adjusts for both height and cant to grab your shoulder and stay planted. No, the hex wrenches are not included in the box. You'll want a 5/32-inch and a 1/8-inch SAE Allen wrench on hand to set your length of pull and comb height. Once dialed in, the adjustments lock down tight and hold their setting under recoil.
The biggest differences are weight and adjustment method. The Lite comes in around 10 ounces lighter than the GEN3 and costs noticeably less. The trade-off is that it uses hex wrenches for adjustment instead of the GEN3's toolless knobs, so it's built more for a set-it-and-leave-it precision setup than on-the-fly changes.
Yes. It's built for AR-15/M16 and AR-10/SR25 platforms in .223 and .308 receiver patterns, as long as you're running a compatible carbine, SR25, or A5 receiver extension. The rugged polymer and metal build handles the heavier recoil of a .308 without issue.
