The Ruger 10/22 is the rifle just about everyone learns to plink with, and the factory stock has always been the first thing folks want to swap. The Magpul MOE X-22 is a slim, lightweight polymer replacement that trims your rifle down to lean, packable dimensions while adding the kind of features the original wood or synthetic stock never had. The whole thing tips the scales at about 18.9 ounces, so on a typical 10/22 you're shaving off close to a pound of dead weight once it's all together.
What makes this one worth grabbing is how much it changes the feel of the gun without any fuss. The pistol grip wears Magpul's TSP texture, which gives you a secure hold whether your hands are sweaty at the summer range or cold in a fall squirrel woods. Up front there are two M-LOK slots at the 6 o'clock position, so a bipod, hand stop, or sling mount bolts right on. Integral sling loops sit at the toe and forend for locking swivels, and the ergonomic butt-pad sets you up with a 13.5-inch length of pull that keeps the rifle compact and quick to shoulder.
One of the smartest touches is the pair of barrel trays in the box. Swap the tray to match your setup and the stock accepts everything from a skinny factory pencil barrel to a heavy aftermarket bull barrel up to 0.920 inches in diameter. That covers stock carbines, target builds, and most of the popular upgrade paths people take with these rifles. It's a genuine drop-in fit for standard 10/22 .22 LR pattern receivers, semi-auto and straight-pull alike.
Installation is about as simple as gun work gets. Pull your barreled action out of the old stock, pick the correct barrel tray, and drop it into the MOE X-22 with the factory takedown screw. No bedding, no fitting, no special tools beyond a screwdriver. It's made in the USA and built to shrug off the knocks that come with real range and field use.
Yes. The stock ships with two barrel trays, and the larger one accepts aftermarket bull barrels up to 0.920 inches in diameter. The other tray handles standard factory pencil barrels, so you can match the stock to whatever your rifle is running by swapping the tray during install.
It is. Pull your barreled action from the old stock, choose the correct barrel tray, and drop it into the MOE X-22 using the factory takedown screw. No bedding, fitting, or gunsmithing is needed, and a basic screwdriver gets the job done.
The MOE X-22 weighs about 18.9 ounces, which is noticeably lighter than a standard 10/22 stock. Most builds end up close to a pound lighter overall once the swap is finished, making the rifle easier to carry and quicker to handle.
Absolutely. Two M-LOK slots at the 6 o'clock position on the forend let you bolt on a bipod, hand stop, or M-LOK sling mount. There are also integral sling loops at the toe and forend for use with locking sling swivels.
