The stock A2 grip that comes on most AR-15s gets the job done, but it was never designed with comfort in mind. Magpul's MOE Grip fixes that with a hand-filling profile, a traditional 25-degree angle that still feels familiar to anyone who has run an AR before, and a beavertail backstrap that fills the gap between your hand and the receiver so the web of your hand isn't taking a beating during long range sessions.
Built as a one-piece reinforced polymer unit, this grip is meant to shrug off years of hard use without adding much bulk or weight to your rifle. The ridged front strap and aggressive anti-slip texture keep your hand locked in place whether you're shooting in the rain, sweating through a hot range day, or wearing gloves. Down at the bottom, a hard polymer edge resists snagging on gear and holds up to the bumps and scrapes that come with regular range and field use.
One of the more practical touches on the MOE Grip is the hollow core inside the grip itself. It ships with a basic cap installed, but the cavity is sized to accept Magpul's optional Storage Cores if you want to stash a spare firing pin, a couple of batteries, or a small bottle of lube right where you can reach it without digging through a range bag.
This version comes in Magpul's newer Modified Coyote Brown colorway, a deeper and more subdued take on the traditional coyote and flat dark earth tones a lot of builders already run. It pairs well with FDE or coyote furniture and gives your rifle a more cohesive, less black-rifle look without changing anything about how the grip performs.
Installation is straightforward and takes just a few minutes with a hex key, no gunsmithing required. All the mounting hardware you need comes in the box, and the grip is made in the USA to the same standards Magpul holds across its whole AR accessory line. It will physically install and function on most 7.62 NATO AR-10 and SR25 pattern lowers, but depending on the specific make of your rifle you may end up with a small gap between the beavertail and the receiver. That gap is purely cosmetic and won't affect how the grip performs, so it's still a solid option for those platforms.
No, it ships with a basic grip cap installed so it's ready to use right out of the box. If you want the internal storage compartment for batteries, lube, or a spare firing pin, you'll need to pick up a Magpul Storage Core separately, which drops right into the same cavity.
It's one of the easier upgrades you can do on an AR-15, usually a five to ten minute job with a hex key or Allen wrench. You'll remove the factory grip screw, swap the old A2 grip for the MOE, and reinstall using the hardware included with the grip.
Modified Coyote Brown is a newer color from Magpul that runs a bit darker and more subdued than their traditional coyote brown or flat dark earth finishes. It still pairs well with earth-tone builds but gives a slightly richer, less orange look on the rifle.
