The Magpul MOE AK Handguard is one of the easiest, most satisfying upgrades you can do to a stamped-receiver AK. It drops in using the existing front retaining cap, ditches the old wood or plastic furniture, and gives you an extended gripping surface that just feels better in the hand. This is the Plum version, which pairs up nicely with other Plum Magpul AK furniture if you're building out a matched setup, and it keeps the traditional Kalashnikov profile thanks to the included gas tube cover.
Magpul built this from reinforced, heat-resistant polymer with an integral, black-oxide-coated stainless steel heat shield baked right in. That combo does a real job of keeping barrel heat off your support hand during longer strings, which is the number one gripe folks have with bare AK furniture. The front lip and long side extensions add extra protection while giving you more to hold onto. It also accepts a factory cleaning rod, so you're not giving up anything from the original setup.
The M-LOK slots sit at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions, so you can direct-attach accessories or bolt on M-LOK Picatinny rail sections for a light, laser, or grip. Keep in mind the space is snug, so this handguard shines most with one or two focused add-ons rather than a fully loaded forend. True to AK life, tolerances vary from rifle to rifle, so a snug fit is normal and a light tap with a rubber mallet or a little sanding may be needed to seat it perfectly.
