Description

The Magpul ESK, short for Enhanced Selector Kit, brings real customization to a part of the AR that usually gets ignored. It's a modular, ambidextrous selector built for Mil-Spec AR-pattern lowers, and it lets you tune both the feel and the throw of your safety without buying three different selectors to find the one you like. Magpul came into this market a little late, and it shows in the details.

Building Out the ESK Your Way

The heart of the kit is the reversible selector drum, machined from heat-treated chromoly steel with a QPQ finish that shrugs off wear and corrosion. Flip it around and you switch between a standard 90-degree throw or a shorter, faster 60-degree throw. From there you pick your levers. The kit comes with three shapes, full-length, short, and a hybrid, and you can run any combination side to side. That means a full lever on your firing hand and a low-profile one on the weak side, or whatever setup fits how you shoot. The levers press onto the drum's keyways with zero wobble and lock in place with an indicator pin. No set screws working loose, no roll pins to buck across the bench.

Living With the Magpul ESK

The indicator pins do double duty here. They come in black and red so you can color-code the fire position for a quick visual check, and they act as non-load-bearing secondary locks to keep everything retained. Swapping levers later just takes a small punch or hex key to pop the pin, and once the axle is in the gun you can reconfigure without pulling the grip again. Magpul also includes the spring and a low-friction coated detent, so this is a complete assembly ready to drop in.

The polymer levers might feel light in the hand at first, but they seat up rock solid once installed, and plenty of serious builders have run polymer selectors for years without issue. Fit and finish are clean, the clicks are positive, and the FDE color pairs nicely with tan furniture or a two-tone build. Made in the USA and designed for Mil-Spec AR-pattern lower receivers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What levers come with the Magpul ESK selector?

The kit ships with three lever shapes: a full-length, a short, and a hybrid. You can mix and match them side to side, so you might run a full lever on your firing hand and a shorter one on the weak side. They press onto the drum with no wobble and lock in with an indicator pin.

Does the ESK let me change between a 60 and 90-degree throw?

Yes. The selector drum is reversible, so flipping it around switches you between a standard 90-degree throw and a shorter 60-degree throw. It takes just a moment and requires no extra parts.

Does the Magpul ESK come with a detent and spring for installation?

It does. The kit includes the spring and a corrosion-resistant detent with a low-friction coating, so it's a complete drop-in assembly. You'll need to remove your grip to install it, and reconfiguring levers later just takes a small punch or hex key.

Will this fit my AR-15, and is it ambidextrous?

The ESK is designed for Mil-Spec AR-pattern lower receivers, including AR-15 and AR-10 style rifles, and it's fully ambidextrous for right or left-handed use. It is built for semi-auto Mil-Spec lowers and is not made for select-fire receivers.
