Swapping your AR's stock safety selector is one of the easiest ways to make the rifle feel like yours, and the Magpul ESK gives you more ways to do that than just about anything at this price. This is a full modular kit built around a reversible steel axle and three different lever styles, so you can run it single-sided or ambidextrous and tune the throw and feel to match how you actually manipulate the safety.
Inside the box you get three polymer levers: a full-length, a short, and a hybrid. Mix and match them however you like, mounting any lever on either side of the axle. They press onto the keyways with no wobble, which is a common gripe with cheaper ambi selectors that rattle loose over time. You also get selector pins in both black and red, and here's the smart part: that pin does double duty. It locks the lever to the axle and acts as a visible position indicator, so a quick glance tells you where your safety sits.
The selector axle is reversible, letting you choose a 60-degree or 90-degree throw depending on your preference. Guys who want a faster, shorter sweep off safe tend to run the 60, while folks who like the traditional feel stick with 90. The axle itself is machined from heat-treated chromoly steel with a QPQ nitride finish, so it shrugs off wear and corrosion through a lot of range time. A corrosion-resistant detent and spring round out the kit.
Installation is refreshingly simple. Once you drop the grip, the levers seat without any tools, and if you decide to reconfigure later, a small punch or hex key pops the selector pin right back out. It's designed for Mil-Spec AR-pattern lower receivers and is proudly made in the USA, so it drops right into most builds you're likely to be working on.
Yes. The ESK is a fully ambidextrous kit, and you can mount any of the three included levers on either side of the axle. That lets you set up left-hand and right-hand levers independently to match how you run the rifle.
The selector axle is reversible, so you simply flip it to change between a 60-degree short throw and a standard 90-degree throw. The barrel is marked to show orientation, making it easy to confirm which setup you have installed.
Once you remove the grip to access the selector, the levers press on without any tools thanks to the keyway design. If you want to reconfigure or remove a lever later, all you need is a small punch or hex key to pop the selector pin out.
It's designed for Mil-Spec AR-pattern lower receivers, so it drops into the vast majority of standard AR-15 builds. If your lower uses standard Mil-Spec fire control dimensions, you're good to go.
