Description

Magpul took everything people love about their bipod line and built it around the A.R.M.S. 17S mounting standard, and the MAG951-FDE is the Flat Dark Earth version of that package. It leans on mil-spec hard anodized 6061 T-6 aluminum, stainless steel internals, and injection-molded reinforced polymer, so it shrugs off forward tension and years of range use without warping or squeaking. All that toughness comes in at just over 11 ounces, which is lighter than a lot of bipods that cost quite a bit more.

What Sets the MAG951-FDE Apart on the Range

Deployment is where this thing shines. The spring-tensioned legs stow forward under the handguard and snap down to lock with one hand, so you can go from carry to prone in a hurry. Each leg extends a full four inches, running from 6.3 to 10.3 inches across seven half-inch detents, and the push-button locks drop into place with a solid, positive feel. There is no wobble or slop once you load it up.

Dialing In the Magpul 17S Bipod

A knurled, tool-less locking knob sits between the legs and handles both pan and tilt. You get 50 degrees of total tilt and 40 degrees of total pan, and the bipod has an industry-exclusive trick where you can lock pan at zero while keeping full tilt. That's handy when you want to level up on uneven ground but keep your rifle tracking straight. It works with gloves on, too.

A Few Practical Touches on the Flat Dark Earth Bipod

The low-profile housing hides the hardware and mechanisms, so it doesn't hang up on slings, gear, or brush. When it's folded, a soft rubber cap on the locking knob doubles as a non-marring forward rest. The rubber feet grip well on most surfaces, and if you already run Atlas-pattern feet, the legs accept most of those replaceable options (the Atlas 5-H being the exception). Keep in mind this is the bipod only, so you'll need a 17S-style mount to attach it to your rifle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the MAG951-FDE come with a mount?

No, this is the bipod only. It's built for the A.R.M.S. 17S mounting standard, so you'll need a compatible 17S-style mount to attach it to your rifle. Most aftermarket 17S mounts are quick-detach capable, which makes swapping the bipod between rifles easy.

How much does the Magpul 17S bipod weigh?

It tips the scale at just over 11 ounces. That's noticeably lighter than a lot of comparable bipods, and it comes from the mix of anodized aluminum, stainless steel internals, and reinforced polymer. You get the strength without the extra bulk hanging off the front of your rifle.

Can I put different feet on the Magpul MAG951-FDE?

Yes. The legs accept most Atlas-pattern replaceable feet, so if you already run a set you like, you can swap them on. The one exception is the Atlas 5-H style, which won't fit.

How does the pan and tilt adjustment work?

A knurled, tool-less knob sits between the legs and controls both functions with your fingers, gloves on or off. You get 50 degrees of total tilt and 40 degrees of total pan. It also has a handy feature that lets you lock pan at zero while keeping full tilt for leveling on uneven ground.
