Running an optic on an AK usually means your face sits too low on the stock, forcing you to crane your neck just to catch the sight picture. Magpul's medium AK Cheek Riser fixes that by lifting your cheek weld half an inch, putting your eye right where it needs to be behind a red dot, LPVO, or magnified optic. It clips straight onto the top of the stock and locks in tight with no wiggle, so your head lands in the same spot shot after shot.
This one is about as easy as accessories get. It's a tool-less design that snaps right onto the top of a Magpul MOE AK or Zhukov-S stock, and it stays put once it's seated. Folks who run it consistently mention the fit is snug with zero slop, which is exactly what you want from something your cheek is pressing against every time you shoulder the rifle. When you want it off, it comes off just as clean with no leftover marks or modifications to the stock.
The 0.50" riser sits in the middle of Magpul's three-height lineup, which also includes a 0.25" low and a 0.75" high. The medium is a sweet spot for a lot of red dot and side-mount optic builds where a quarter inch isn't quite enough but a full three-quarters overshoots it. If your optic sits especially tall, the higher riser might serve you better, so it's worth mocking up your sight picture before you commit.
Made in the USA from Magpul's reinforced polymer, this thing shrugs off range life without adding any real weight to the gun. It won't block the storage compartment on the MOE stock and won't get in the way of the folding mechanism on the Zhukov-S, so your stock keeps doing everything it did before, just with a better cheek weld. It's built specifically for the Magpul MOE AK and Zhukov-S stocks. The riser clips onto the top of the stock and won't block the storage compartment on the MOE or the folding mechanism on the Zhukov-S. It isn't designed for other AK stocks, so make sure you're running one of those two.
This is the medium option and it lifts your cheek weld 0.50 inch. Magpul also makes a 0.25" low and a 0.75" high in the same clip-on style. The half-inch is a common choice for red dots and side-mounted optics, though a taller optic setup may call for the 0.75" version.
None at all. It's a tool-less design that simply snaps onto the top of the stock and locks in place. It seats tight with no wobble and pulls off just as easily when you want to swap setups, with no permanent changes to the stock.
Yes, the stock still folds normally for transport with the riser installed. Keep in mind that firing with the stock folded may be affected, so this is really meant for use with the stock deployed. On the fixed MOE stock, none of that applies.
