The Magpul AFG-2 takes a different approach than the traditional vertical foregrip. Instead of gripping under the rail like a broomstick, your support hand rests at a natural angle high along the bore's centerline. That position works with your body mechanics rather than against them, cutting down on wrist and arm fatigue while giving you a stable hold that lets you drive the muzzle to target instead of just hanging on. The result is better recoil management and quicker, more accurate follow-up shots. It mounts to any MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail and NATO STANAG 4694 rails, with all the mounting hardware included in the box.
This is the trimmed-down second-generation version of the Angled Fore Grip. Magpul shortened the overall length and narrowed the width compared to the first AFG, which makes a real difference on today's slimmer handguards. It takes up roughly three inches of rail, so you've got room left over for lights, covers, or whatever else you're running up front. Folks with average or smaller hands tend to appreciate the more compact footprint, too.
One of the smarter touches here is the three-piece design with an interchangeable finger shelf. You can run a flat A1-style surface or swap in the A2-style finger nub depending on how you like to index your hand. The low-profile shape and forward hand stop keep everything locked in place, and the textured polymer gives you a solid, grippy hold that shrugs off abuse. It's made from Magpul's tough polymer, which many prefer over an aluminum grip surface for both comfort and feel.
The angled shape sidesteps the snag hazard that vertical grips are known for, which matters when you're moving fast or working in tight quarters. Plenty of users who came from a vertical grip or a bare rail say it takes a session or two to click, but once it does the natural pointability and reduced fatigue win them over. The AFG-2 mounts to any MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail as well as NATO STANAG 4694 rails. Magpul recommends about three inches of open rail space to mount it, and its slimmed-down size fits a wider range of handguards than the original AFG. If you're running an M-LOK handguard, you'll need an M-LOK-to-Picatinny adapter, or you can look at Magpul's dedicated M-LOK version of the AFG.
