The Magnum Research SwitchBolt SSAA22G skips those tradeoffs. You get a 16.5 inch carbon-wrapped barrel over a stainless liner, a receiver machined from 6061-T6 aluminum with a hard anodized finish, and an Archangel folding backpack stock that lets the whole rifle tuck into a daypack. Unfold it, shoulder it, and you have a legitimate semi-auto .22 LR that weighs so little you forget it's on your back.
The name is the feature. Magnum Research puts the bolt handle on the left side of a right-handed bolt, so you can run the action without ever breaking your firing grip. It sounds like a small thing until you try it, then it feels obvious. The charging handle is reversible too, so lefties are covered. This setup came out of the speed shooting world, and it shows in how fast the rifle cycles between targets. Feeding comes from familiar 10/22 pattern rotary magazines, with one 10 round mag riding in the well.
