The SwitchBolt gets its name from one smart design decision: the bolt handle sits on the left side of a right-handed bolt. That sounds backwards until you run one. Your trigger hand stays planted on the grip while your support hand charges the action, which makes clearing the range flag, loading up, and getting back on target noticeably quicker than reaching over the top of a scope. It is the kind of feature that seems small on paper and then becomes the thing you miss on every other rimfire you own.
Magnum Research builds the SwitchBolt entirely in the USA around the same lightweight bones as their well-regarded MLR rimfire rifles. The receiver is machined from a one-piece 6061-T6 aluminum forging, hard coat anodized for durability, with a Picatinny scope base machined right in. No screws to loosen, no separate rail to hunt down. Since the platform follows the familiar 10/22 pattern, spare rotary magazines are easy to come by, and the rifle ships with one 10-round mag to get you started.
The patterned carbon fiber barrel is where this rifle separates itself from the usual bulk-barrel .22s. You get the stiffness and look of a target-style barrel without the weight penalty, keeping the whole rifle at roughly 4.25 pounds. That makes it a joy to carry on a squirrel walk and easy for smaller-framed folks to hold steady. The muzzle comes threaded 1/2×28, so a rimfire suppressor spins right on, and quiet .22 LR through a can is about as much fun as you can have at the range.
The Hogue OverMolded stock rounds out the package with a grippy, weatherproof feel that shrugs off rain and rough handling. The muzzle comes threaded in the standard 1/2×28 rimfire pattern, so most .22 suppressors and muzzle devices thread straight on. Suppressed .22 LR through this rifle is quiet, soft shooting, and one of the best reasons to pick this model over a non-threaded version.
No iron sights are included, but the receiver has a Picatinny scope base machined directly into the forging. That means there is no add-on rail to work loose over time. Just mount a rimfire scope or red dot and hit the range.
