LWRC built its reputation on piston-driven ARs that keep running when direct impingement guns start getting cranky, and the IC-MKII is the newest evolution of that idea. This 14 inch barrel version in Patriot Brown sits in a sweet spot: shorter and quicker-handling than a full 16 inch carbine, but with enough barrel to keep 5.56 velocities respectable at distance. The heart of the gun is LWRC's proprietary short-stroke gas piston system, which vents hot gas at the front of the rifle instead of dumping it back into the receiver. The result is a bolt carrier that stays cooler and cleaner, so you spend more time on the range and less time scrubbing carbon.
The MKII generation brought some real upgrades over the well-loved IC-A5. The Monoforge one-piece upper receiver with an integrated rail base is stronger than a standard-pattern upper, and every LWRC forging is coined, struck twice in the die for tighter dimensional accuracy and a cleaner surface finish. The cold hammer forged barrel carries a 1:7 twist that stabilizes everything from light varmint loads to heavy 77 grain match bullets, and the 1/2×28 threaded muzzle is ready for your favorite muzzle device or suppressor. A longer M-LOK handguard gives you plenty of room for lights, lasers, and grips, with access to the adjustable gas system built right in.
The lower receiver is fully ambidextrous from the factory, with mirrored bolt catch, bolt release, magazine release, and safety selector, so left-handed folks get the same experience as everyone else. Inside, the nickel-boron coated bolt carrier brings serious wear resistance and permanent lubricity, which makes cleanup noticeably easier.
The Patriot Brown Cerakote finish looks sharp and shrugs off weather and handling wear. With the LWRC compact stock, an included Magpul 30 round PMAG, and build quality you can feel the moment you shoulder it, this is a carbine made for hard use, not the safe.
The MKII is the follow-up to the IC-A5 and brings several meaningful upgrades. You get a longer M-LOK handguard, stronger Monoforge upper and reinforced lower receivers, and a redesigned butterfly-style gas adjustment key you can reach through the handguard. It keeps the same proven short-stroke piston system the A5 was known for.
Yes. The muzzle is threaded 1/2×28, which covers the vast majority of 5.56 suppressors and muzzle devices. Even better, the two-position adjustable gas block lets you tune the gun for suppressed or unsuppressed use, so it stays properly gassed either way.
It makes a noticeable difference. Because the piston vents gas at the front of the gun instead of blowing it back into the receiver, the bolt carrier group stays far cleaner and cooler. Combine that with the nickel-boron coated carrier, which wipes clean easily and has permanent lubricity, and cleaning sessions get a lot shorter.
A 1:7 twist is a versatile all-arounder that leans toward heavier bullets. It will stabilize 55 grain plinking ammo just fine, but it really shines with 62 to 77 grain loads, including heavy match and barrier-friendly defensive ammunition. The cold hammer forged barrel is built to hold accuracy over a long service life.
