Description

The Luth-AR MBA-5 is one of those upgrades that quietly makes a big difference on an AR carbine. It builds on Luth-AR's popular MBA series with a wide, flared cheek rest that gives you a solid, repeatable cheek weld shot after shot, plus a paddle-style adjustment lever that lets you change your length of pull in a second without breaking your grip. It's molded from super-strong glass-filled nylon, so it stays tough while keeping the weight down to right around 9 ounces. A rubber buttpad keeps it planted on your shoulder.

What the MBA-5 Brings to Your Build

Length of pull runs from 11.5 inches collapsed to 14.5 inches extended, which covers just about any shooter and any layer of gear from a t-shirt to a heavy coat. The bottom of the stock carries an integrated 1913 Picatinny rail, so you can hang a monopod or a bag rider off the back for those times you want to steady up for a longer shot. It's also Grovtec quick-detach sling cup ready, with molded pockets on each side that accept QD cups (those sling cups and swivels are sold separately, in keeping with the modular design of the MBA line).

Fitment and the Anti-Rattle Set Screw

The MBA-5 slides onto any carbine buffer tube, mil-spec or commercial. Commercial tubes run a touch larger in diameter and naturally give a tighter fit. On a mil-spec tube, Luth-AR includes their anti-rattle set screw, the same design proven on the MBA-3 and MBA-4. A quick turn with a 3/32-inch Allen wrench snugs it up against the tube and takes the wobble out. Keep in mind it's meant to reduce play, not lock the stock permanently in place, so there's no need to crank on it.

One thing worth noting: the cheek rest is fixed and flared, not vertically adjustable. If you want an adjustable cheek riser, Luth-AR points folks toward the MBA-3 or an MBA-4 with a cheek rest assembly. For most carbine builds, though, the MBA-5 hits the sweet spot of comfort, features, and value.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the MBA-5 fit both mil-spec and commercial buffer tubes?

Yes, the MBA-5 is designed to slide onto either carbine buffer tube, mil-spec or commercial. Commercial tubes are slightly larger in diameter, so they tend to give a snugger fit right out of the gate. On a mil-spec tube you'll use the included anti-rattle set screw to tighten things up.

What is the anti-rattle set screw and how do I use it?

It's a small set screw on the left side of the stock that you adjust with a 3/32-inch Allen wrench. Turn it clockwise slowly until it lightly contacts the buffer tube, which takes out the wobble you can get on a mil-spec tube. It's built to reduce play, not to lock the stock in place, so avoid over-tightening it.

Can I adjust the cheek rest height on the MBA-5?

No, the MBA-5 uses a fixed, wide flared cheek rest that isn't meant for vertical adjustment. It's shaped to give a comfortable, consistent cheek weld as is. If you want an adjustable riser, Luth-AR suggests stepping up to the MBA-3 or adding a cheek rest assembly to an MBA-4.

Does the MBA-5 come with sling swivels or QD cups?

No, the sling hardware is sold separately to keep the base cost down and stay true to the modular design of the MBA line. The stock has molded pockets on both sides that accept Grovtec quick-detach cups, so you can add them when you're ready. There's also an integrated Picatinny rail on the bottom for a monopod or bag rider.
