The Limbsaver Grind-To-Fit Recoil Pad in Small is the pad you reach for when nothing off the shelf lines up right. Rather than forcing a pre-shaped pad onto a stock it was never meant for, this one starts oversized and gets ground down on a belt sander to follow the exact contour of your buttstock. That means a flush, gap-free fit on custom stocks, refinished woodwork, or older guns that never matched a standard template. Made from Limbsaver's proprietary NAVCOM material, it absorbs a wide range of vibration frequencies and cuts felt recoil by up to 70 percent while helping keep the muzzle from jumping between shots.
Slip-on and pre-fit pads are quick, but they can only match so many stock shapes. This pad gives you the most customization of any option in the Limbsaver lineup because you control the final dimensions. In Small, it starts at roughly 4-13/16" x 1-27/32" and grinds down as far as 3-7/8" x 1-11/32", with a 1-inch length of pull. Limbsaver recommends letting a gunsmith or custom shop handle the grinding and installation, and that's solid advice since a belt grinder does the shaping and there's no undoing a heavy pass.
Recoil pads earn their keep on long range sessions and hard-kicking calibers. Whether you're setting up a youth rifle so a new shooter can put in more trigger time without a sore shoulder, or knocking the punch out of a magnum hunting rig, the NAVCOM rubber does the heavy lifting. The Small is a great match for slimmer buttstock profiles found on many rifles, shotguns, and muzzleloaders. Limbsaver recommends having a professional shop grind and install these pads, and that's good guidance. Shaping requires a belt grinder to follow your stock's contour, and once material is removed it can't be added back. If you're experienced with a grinder and comfortable working slowly, some folks do it at home, but a gunsmith will give you the cleanest flush fit.
