The Century Arms Apollo 11 V2 Compact is built and machined by Live Free Armory in Palm Bay, Florida, and distributed through Century Arms to make it more widely available. That domestic production story matters here because most pistols in this price range come from overseas. LFA does its own CNC machining and Cerakote finishing in-house, which gives the build quality a step up from what you'd typically expect at this level.
The V2 update brought some meaningful changes over the original Apollo 11. The grip module is now 6061 aluminum with improved texture, replacing the polymer module from the V1. The slide gets deeper front and rear serrations for more confident manipulation, a tritium front night sight is now standard, and the extractor was switched from internal to external. That last change is notable on a 2011-pattern platform because it simplifies maintenance and is generally considered more reliable in a carry context. The fire control group, beavertail, and recoil system carry over from the previous generation.
The slide is cut directly for the RMSc optic footprint with no adapter plate needed, so popular micro red dots like the Holosun 507K or Shield RMSc drop right in. The steel frame incorporates a full-length Picatinny rail for weapon lights or lasers, and the beavertail provides a higher grip purchase that helps manage the all-steel recoil impulse. The ambidextrous thumb safety is machined from billet steel and engages with solid, positive feel on both sides. The skeletonized trigger runs a clean 3.5-4.5 lb pull with a billet trigger bow.
This FDE version wears a Flat Dark Earth Cerakote slide over a black Cerakote steel frame, giving it a two-tone look that stands out without being over the top. It ships with two 18-round Mec-Gar magazines, which is a quality choice by LFA since Mec-Gar is a well-respected OEM magazine supplier used across the industry. The overall length is 7.5 inches and weight comes in at approximately 32.6 ounces unloaded, so plan your carry setup accordingly.
This pistol makes the most sense for someone who appreciates the 1911 manual of arms and single-action trigger feel, but wants modern capacity and optics-ready capability built in. It also fits well for competition newcomers looking to get into the double-stack 1911 world without committing to a four-figure premium platform right out of the gate.
The slide is machined with a direct RMSc footprint, so any optic using the RMSc pattern mounts without an adapter plate. Popular choices include the Holosun 507K, Shield RMSc, and Holosun EPS Carry. When mounting, use the correct screw length and apply thread locker to keep your zero from walking under recoil.

It can work for carry, but it's worth going in with realistic expectations. At roughly 32.6 ounces unloaded with an all-steel build, it's heavier than most striker-fired compacts, so a quality rigid belt and a well-fitted holster are non-negotiable. The compact format and 4.15" barrel make it more manageable than the full-size, and the tritium night sight and RMSc optic cut make it genuinely capable as a defensive pistol.
