What sets the L7AWM apart is its hybrid construction approach. Rather than relying on polymer for the feed lips, Lancer engineered a one-piece wraparound steel feed lip assembly. This design prevents the feed lip deformation and wear issues that can plague all-polymer magazine designs. The stainless steel internal spring paired with a non-tilt follower ensures rounds stack consistently and feed smoothly regardless of environmental conditions.
Gen 2 magazines feature an enhanced feed lip geometry and a redesigned floor plate that reduces free stack space to maximize round retention. The stainless steel front guard provides additional protection against wear and dimpling, especially valuable for people putting heavy rounds through their rifles regularly.
Every L7AWM magazine includes a switchable drain lock in the floor plate. Flip it one way and you get open drainage channels for amphibious operations or waterlogged environments. Close it for situations where dust storms or sand could foul up the internal spring and follower. The L7AWM Gen 2 is designed for SR-25 pattern AR-10s and compatible with platforms including DPMS AR-10, SIG 716, LMT, LM308, POF P308, and S&W M&P-10. It will not work with Armalite AR-10B, HK417, FN SCAR 17S, or rifles using M14, FN FAL, or HK G3 style magazines. Steel feed lips don't bend, crack, or deform under pressure like polymer-only feed lips can. Since the magazine spring constantly applies force on the feed lips during use and storage, hardened steel resists this wear and maintains feeding reliability indefinitely. This is why the L7AWM's one-piece wraparound steel design is more durable than magazines relying entirely on polymer feed lips.
The floor plate includes a small lever that opens or closes drainage channels. Keep it open for water or muddy conditions so moisture drains out, or close it when operating in dusty or sandy environments to prevent particles from getting inside. It's tool-free to switch between configurations.
