It replaces the receiver extension tube on shotguns running an AR-15 style stock adapter, and as the gun fires the internal damping compresses roughly three quarters of an inch to soak up the recoil impulse before it reaches you. The result is a softer push, less muzzle flip, and a faster return to target between shots.
This is the non-adjustable version of KynSHOT's lineup, permanently set at the medium damping level found on their selectable buffer. You give up the ability to dial it in, but you keep the same dramatic recoil reduction at a friendlier price. The manufacturer rates felt recoil reduction around 70 percent, and folks who run these often describe a 12 gauge that suddenly feels closer to a light target load. It weighs 13.5 ounces and uses Mil-Spec hydraulic fluids and seals rated for ambient temps from -30F to +150F, so it holds up in cold-weather duty and summer range sessions alike.
The buffer threads into any stock adapter or receiver that uses Mil-Spec style threads, and it accepts any Mil-Spec collapsible AR-15 buttstock. That opens it up to popular platforms like the Remington 870, V3 and TAC-13, Mossberg 500 and 590, Maverick 88, and the Beretta 1301, though each of those needs the correct stock adapter to mount it. Keep in mind the adapter is not included here, so if your receiver does not already wear Mil-Spec threads you will want to grab the matching mounting hardware. Installation is straightforward with basic hand tools and no gunsmithing.
One important note from KynSHOT: do not use this buffer on shotguns where the bolt travels rearward and impacts a buffer system. For those setups, reach out before you install. For everything else, the RB5103 is one of the most effective bolt-on recoil solutions you can hang off the back of a shotgun.
No, the RB5103 buffer is sold on its own. You will need a Mil-Spec style stock adapter to mount it to your shotgun receiver, plus your own Mil-Spec AR-15 collapsible buttstock. KynSHOT offers complete conversion kits with the adapter and hardware if you would rather buy everything together.
The RB5103 is locked at KynSHOT's medium damping setting, while the RB5100 lets you select between low, medium, and heavy damping. You lose the ability to fine-tune for different loads, but you get the same core recoil reduction at a lower price. For most shooters running a consistent load, the fixed RB5103 works great.
