Keystone Sporting Arms has been building these American-made single shots for young beginners for over two decades, and the G2 version of the classic walnut and blued model is the best one yet. Everything about it is built around teaching fundamentals the right way: one round at a time, a deliberate manual cocking knob, and a rebounding firing pin that stays blocked until the rifle is intentionally cocked.
The numbers tell the story here. An 11.5 inch length of pull, 30 inch overall length, and a weight of right around 3 pounds mean a young shooter can shoulder the Crickett G2 properly instead of wrestling with a hand-me-down that fits like a canoe paddle. The 16.125 inch blued barrel is topped with a fixed front sight and an adjustable rear peep, which is a great setup for learning sight alignment. After closing the bolt on a chambered round, the shooter pulls the cocking knob at the rear of the bolt to ready the rifle to fire. Until that step happens, the rebounding firing pin stays blocked. This deliberate extra step slows the process down, which is exactly what you want when teaching a new shooter safe habits.
