Mounting an optic to a Krinkov has always been a headache. The short-barreled AKS-74U platform doesn't leave you many good options, and side mounts often sit too high or won't hold zero. The Texas Weapon Systems Gen-3 Dog Leg solves that by replacing the standard rear leaf sight and dust cover with a one-piece aluminum railed cover that sits low and locks down tight over the receiver.
The patented joggle shape behind the rear sight block is where the "Dog Leg" name comes from, and it's the reason this rail gives you the lowest possible MIL-STD-1913 mounting surface. That low height matters on a Krink, since it lets you co-witness a red dot or run a magnified optic without perching it up in the clouds. You get generous rail real estate across the top of the receiver, far more than any small side-mount section, plus the integral dust cover keeps barrel heat away from your glass.
The forward hinged cover uses a rear cam lock release button that replaces your factory take-down button. That cam lock is the magic here. It preserves normal AK field stripping, so you can open the rifle for cleaning and snap it back to a reliable return to zero every time. Owners who've pulled their covers off and reinstalled them dozens of times consistently report the optic stays dead on. The CNC aluminum build is lightweight and rugged, and the adjustable front tab lets you dial in a custom fit to your specific weapon.
This is the Krinkov-specific version, cut to fit AKS-74U, SLR-104UR and Krink-style builds. Installation is straightforward if you're comfortable disassembling your rifle, and TWS has a detailed install video worth watching first. Do note this Krinkov model does not include a quick detach feature. If you want QD capability down the road, the rifle and cover can be modified for it, which also calls for the optional Enhanced Push Button Take Down Pin.
Yes. The rear cam lock release button and forward hinged design are built specifically to return to zero after field stripping and reassembly. Owners routinely pull the cover off and reinstall it many times with the optic staying on point. Running thread locker on the screws during install helps keep everything consistent.
This Krinkov-specific version does not include a quick detach feature. The rifle and top cover can be permanently modified for QD capability, which also requires the optional Enhanced Push Button Take Down Pin. If QD isn't a priority, the standard hinged setup still removes easily for cleaning.
It's cut for the Krinkov pattern, including the AKS-74U, SLR-104UR and similar Krink-style builds. The adjustable front tab lets you fine-tune the fit to your individual weapon. Some builds from other makers may need minor fitting, so check your specific receiver before install.
Both work well. The full-length Picatinny surface gives you plenty of room for a red dot, an LPVO or a magnified scope, and it sits low enough for a solid cheek weld. The integral dust cover also keeps barrel heat away from your glass during longer range sessions.
