Some 1911s try to blend in. The Rapide Dawn is not one of them. Kimber built this full-size 9mm on a stainless steel frame and slide, dressed it in a silver KimPro II finish with brush polished flats, then cut windows into the slide that show off the gold TiN-coated match-grade barrel underneath. It looks sharp on the bench, but the choices here are functional too. The lightening cuts trim slide mass for quicker cycling, and the titanium nitride coating on the barrel adds real durability while cutting friction.
Kimber went heavy on texture with this one. The gray and black G10 grips carry the aggressive Rapide pattern, and the front strap gets Kimber's Stiplex stippling so the pistol stays locked in your hands even when your palms are sweaty at the range in July. Stepped cocking serrations front and rear make press checks and slide manipulation easy, and the high undercut trigger guard lets you choke up for a naturally higher grip. The V-Cut aluminum trigger breaks clean at a factory setting of roughly 4 to 5 pounds, which is right where a 1911 trigger should live.
Up top you get TruGlo TFX Pro day/night sights, which combine fiber optics for daylight with tritium for low light, plus a high-contrast orange ring around the front post that your eye finds fast. It is a genuinely useful sight setup whether you are shooting steel in the afternoon or running drills as the light fades.
Chambering a government-size 1911 in 9mm gets you a 9+1 capacity, softer recoil, and cheaper range days, all wrapped in a 40-ounce steel pistol that soaks up what little muzzle flip is left. Beavertail grip safety, thumb safety, match-grade bushing, and one 9-round stainless magazine round out the package. If you want a 1911 that shoots as good as it looks, this one earns its spot in the safe.
Both, really. The gold color comes from a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, which is an extremely hard finish that resists wear and reduces friction as the barrel cycles. It also cleans up easily since fouling doesn't bond to it the way it does to bare steel. The fact that it looks great through the slide cuts is a bonus.
The TFX Pro sights combine a fiber optic element with a tritium insert, so they gather ambient light during the day and glow on their own in the dark. The front sight also has a bright orange ring around it, which makes it quick to pick up against just about any background. No batteries, no switches, they just work.
Kimber ships it with one 9-round stainless steel magazine. Since it's a standard full-size 1911 platform, quality aftermarket 9mm 1911 magazines from makers like Mec-Gar and Wilson Combat generally run well in it, so picking up a few spares is easy and worth doing.

That combination, along with the crisp 4 to 5 pound trigger, makes this a very pleasant gun for long range sessions and an easy platform to shoot accurately.
