Description

Kimber built the 2K11 Independence OR to celebrate the 4th of July 2025, and they capped production at 1,776 units, a nod to the year that started it all. Each pistol wears a distressed American flag Cerakote finish applied by Hillbilly Cerakote, paired with a limited-edition stars and stripes MJD grip module made from Kevlar carbon fiber. It looks like something out of a custom shop because, in a lot of ways, it is. And underneath the patriotic dress-up is the same 2K11 platform that finally gave 1911 fans a serious double-stack option, chambered in .45 ACP with 13+1 on tap and three 13-round magazines in the box.

What Makes the 2K11 Independence Shoot So Well

The 5" DLC-coated bull barrel is match grade with a 1-in-10 twist, and the GT trigger breaks clean in the 3 to 4 pound range with the short travel and crisp reset you want from a single-action gun. At 40.1 ounces of all-metal construction, the pistol soaks up .45 ACP recoil noticeably better than a single-stack Government model, so fast follow-up shots stay flat and controllable. An external extractor keeps cycling consistent, the ambidextrous thumb safety works for lefties, and the patent-pending toolless guide rod means field stripping doesn't involve the usual paperclip balancing act that plagues bull-barrel 1911s.

Optic Ready Out of the Box

The slide comes cut for the RMR footprint, and Kimber includes a C&H Precision RMR adapter plate, so mounting a Trijicon RMR, Holosun 507C, or similar red dot takes minutes instead of a trip to a machinist. Prefer irons? The TAG Precision FiberLok 2 front sight comes with both red and black fiber optic inserts, and the rear cover plate has a built-in adjustable sight. A Picatinny rail up front handles a light or laser, and a tapered magwell speeds up reloads.

A Kimber 2K11 Worth Keeping

Between the numbered production run, the hand-applied finish, and the fact that it runs like any other 2K11, this one works as a safe queen or a regular range companion. Given how few exist, it probably ends up being both.

Frequently Asked Questions

What red dots fit the Kimber 2K11 Independence OR?

The slide is cut for the RMR footprint, which is one of the most widely supported patterns out there. The included C&H Precision adapter plate handles optics like the Trijicon RMR and Holosun 507C. If you run a different footprint, Kimber sells alternate plates through their online store.

How many Kimber 2K11 Independence pistols were made?

Kimber limited this run to 1,776 total units, a nod to the year of American independence. It was released for the 4th of July 2025 as a commemorative edition, so once they sell through, that's it. That scarcity makes it appealing to collectors as well as folks who just want a distinctive range gun.

Is the 2K11 Independence a true 1911 or a double-stack design?

It's Kimber's take on the 2011-style double-stack platform, so you get classic single-action 1911 controls and trigger feel with a 13+1 capacity in .45 ACP. The all-steel build weighs in at 40.1 ounces, which does a great job taming .45 recoil. Three 13-round magazines come in the box.

Is this pistol just a collector piece or can I shoot it regularly?

Shoot it all you want. Under the flag-themed Cerakote it's a standard 2K11 with a match-grade bull barrel, GT trigger, external extractor, and a toolless guide rod that makes field stripping simple. Plenty of buyers will keep one unfired for the collection, but it's built to run.
