Kimber built the 2K11 to answer one question: what happens when you give the 1911 platform modern capacity and modern features without losing the trigger feel that made it famous? The Eclipse Wasp Edition is a special take on that answer, pairing the blacked-out Eclipse styling with a distinctive limited-edition treatment that stands out in a sea of lookalike double-stacks. Underneath the looks, it's the same serious hardware, with a 5 inch DLC-coated bull barrel, a stainless steel slide with an external extractor, and a steel sub-frame shaped for consistent magazine fit and solid control under recoil.
The GT trigger is the star here, breaking clean between 3 and 4 pounds with short travel and no creep. Kimber's patent-pending tool-less guide rod means takedown for cleaning doesn't require a paperclip, bushing wrench, or colorful language. The MJD Designs Kevlar and carbon fiber grip module keeps weight reasonable for a full-size steel gun while giving your hands plenty of texture to work with, and the ambidextrous thumb safety keeps the controls friendly no matter which hand runs the gun.
The slide ships with a C&H Precision adapter plate cut for the Trijicon RMR footprint, which covers a huge chunk of the popular red dot market, and Kimber offers plates for other footprints if your optic runs a different pattern. Up front you get a TAG Custom FiberLok 2 fiber optic sight that picks up light fast. Capacity is where this platform earns its keep: one 17-round and two 20-round magazines come standard, so you're not hunting down spares before your first range trip. It ships optic ready with a C&H Precision adapter plate cut for the Trijicon RMR footprint, which covers optics like the RMR, RMR HD, SRO, and Holosun 407C, 507C, and 508T. A fixed rear sight cover plate keeps the slide clean until you're ready to mount glass.
This one ships with three: one 17-round and two 20-round magazines. The 2K11 platform runs 2011-pattern magazines, and Kimber's factory mags are built with Checkmate, so spares from Checkmate and most other 2011-pattern makers are easy to find. That's a generous setup compared to a lot of double-stack 1911s that ship with just two.
Yes, and that's one of the platform's best tricks. Kimber's patent-pending tool-less guide rod lets you field strip the pistol without a bushing wrench or any improvised tools, which is a welcome change from traditional 1911 takedown. The external extractor also cuts out the tensioning and tuning maintenance that older internal-extractor 1911s were known for.
Mechanically it's the same full-size 2K11 Eclipse, with the 5 inch bull barrel, GT trigger, stainless slide, and MJD carbon fiber grip module. The Wasp Edition is a limited-run version with its own distinctive styling treatment, so you get the proven platform with a look you won't see at every range. Part numbers reflect that too, with this one carrying the GCWASP-3500071 designation.
