There is a reason so many people learned to shoot on a Crickett. The single shot, manually cocked bolt action forces good habits from day one. Load one round, close the bolt, cock it when you are ready, and make that shot count. This Gen 2 model in .22 LR wears a blued 16.125 inch barrel and receiver over a desert tan synthetic stock, a combo that shrugs off scratches, dings, and the occasional drop in the dirt without needing much more than a wipe down.
The numbers tell the story here. An 11.5 inch length of pull matches small statures, the whole rifle weighs about 3 pounds, and overall length sits right around 30 inches. That means a kid can shoulder it, hold it steady, and reach the trigger properly instead of fighting a rifle built for an adult. The trigger breaks at a light 2.5 to 3 pounds, so new marksmen are not yanking shots trying to muscle through a heavy pull. The Gen 2 also adds the EZ Loader, a small ramp that guides rounds into the chamber, which takes a lot of frustration out of loading for little fingers. Swivel studs come installed too, ready for a sling.
Keystone builds these around a rebounding firing pin that stays blocked until the rifle is deliberately cocked by pulling the knob at the rear of the bolt. Combine that with single shot capacity and an adult controlling the ammo, and you have one of the most sensible training setups out there.

There is no set age since kids grow at different rates, but the 11.5 inch length of pull generally fits youngsters from around 5 to 12 years old. The 3 pound weight makes it easy for small arms to hold steady. Adult supervision is the real requirement, and the single shot design makes that supervision straightforward.

The Generation 2 models add the EZ Loader, a ramp that funnels rounds into the chamber and makes loading much easier for small hands. Gen 2 rifles also come with swivel studs already installed. The core manually cocked single shot action and rebounding firing pin safety carry over from the original.
Closing the bolt on a loaded round does not make the rifle ready to fire. The shooter has to deliberately pull the cocking knob at the rear of the bolt before the trigger will drop the firing pin. Until that happens, the rebounding firing pin stays blocked, which adds a real layer of control when teaching new shooters.
