Description
There is a reason so many people can point to a Crickett as the rifle they learned on. Keystone Sporting Arms built this thing around one idea: give a new or small-framed shooter a rifle that fits them properly and keeps things simple. The single-shot bolt action has to be manually cocked before each shot, so nothing happens until the shooter deliberately makes it happen, and the rebounding firing pin is automatically blocked to help prevent an unintentional discharge. One round in, one round out. That pace forces good habits, and good habits are the whole point of a first rifle.
What the Gen 2 Crickett Brings to the Table
The second generation models picked up some genuinely useful upgrades over the original. The EZ Loader feed ramp guides that little .22 LR round into the chamber without the fumbling that used to frustrate small fingers, and sling swivel studs come installed from the factory. You also get a scope mount base in the box, and the receiver is set up to accept Crickett scope mounts if peep sights ever stop being enough. Out of the box, the fixed front sight and adjustable rear peep are a great way to teach sight alignment fundamentals before glass enters the picture.
Sized for the Shooter, Styled for the Woods
The numbers tell the story here: 16.125 inch blued barrel, right around 30 inches overall, roughly 3 pounds, and an 11.5 inch length of pull. That is a rifle a kid can shoulder correctly, hold steady, and carry on a squirrel hunt without wearing out. The camo laminate stock is the part that gets kids excited, and laminate is a smart choice for a youth gun since it shrugs off weather and rough handling better than plain hardwood. Made in the USA and backed by Keystone, this is the kind of rifle that gets handed down once the first owner outgrows it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Keystone Crickett G2 a good first rifle for a kid?
That is exactly what it was built for. The stock, length of pull, and weight are all scaled for small-framed beginners, and the manually cocked single-shot action means the rifle only fires when the shooter deliberately cocks it and pulls the trigger. Loading one round at a time also slows things down and reinforces fundamentals.
Can I mount a scope on the Crickett G2?
Yes. The receiver is set up to accept Crickett scope mounts, and Gen 2 rifles include a scope mount base. Most families start with the included peep sights to build fundamentals, then add a small rimfire scope down the road.
What is different about the Gen 2 Crickett compared to the original?
The Generation 2 rifles added the EZ Loader feed ramp, which makes chambering a round much easier for small hands, plus factory-installed sling swivel studs. Gen 1 rifles, mostly sold through big box stores, do not have those features.
What ammo does the Crickett G2 KSA2252 shoot?
It is chambered for .22 Long Rifle, and Crickett rifles will also run .22 Short and .22 Long since it is a single shot with no magazine to worry about feeding. Standard velocity .22 LR is cheap, quiet, and perfect for teaching a new shooter.
