Bullpups have always promised a lot: full rifle ballistics in a package short enough to work in tight spaces. The catch has usually been brass flying past your face if you shoot from the wrong shoulder, plus a trigger that feels like dragging a brick. Kel-Tec tackled both problems with the RDB, which stands for Rifle Downward-ejecting Bullpup. Spent cases get pulled back over the magazine and drop straight down through a chute behind the magwell, keeping hot brass completely out of your line of sight and off your neighbor at the range. Lefties can run this rifle exactly the way righties do, no adapters, no compromises.
This Tan version is built around a 20 inch barrel with a 1:7 twist, which stabilizes heavier 5.56 bullets and squeezes real velocity out of the cartridge. Thanks to the bullpup layout, you get all that barrel in a rifle that stays compact and balances right over the grip, so it swings quick and holds steady offhand. The muzzle comes threaded 1/2×28, and the adjustable short-stroke gas piston lets you tune the rifle for different loads or dial it in when running a suppressor. Feeding comes from standard AR-15 pattern magazines, so your existing mag stash works right out of the gate.
The controls are ambidextrous throughout, from the safety to the magazine release, and the operating handle can be swapped to either side. The trigger deserves a mention too. Bullpups have a reputation for mushy triggers, but Kel-Tec put real work into this one and it shows, with smooth take-up and a clean break. Up top you get a full-length Picatinny rail for optics, and the Zytel forend includes a bottom rail section for lights, lasers, or a bipod. There are no sights included from the factory, so plan on adding your favorite red dot, scope, or flip-ups. For range days, varmint work, or a compact truck rifle with full-power ballistics, the RDB20 makes a strong case for itself.
Yes, the RDB20 feeds from standard AR-15 pattern magazines, and it ships with one 20-round mag. Quality metal or polymer AR mags you already own should run fine in it, which keeps feeding costs low and spares easy to find.
It is one of the best options out there for lefties. Spent brass ejects straight down through a chute behind the magazine well instead of out the side, so nothing crosses your face regardless of which shoulder you shoot from. The safety and mag release are ambidextrous, and the operating handle is reversible too.
No sights are included from the factory. The rifle has a full-length Picatinny rail on top, so you can mount a red dot, low-power variable optic, magnified scope, or flip-up irons depending on how you plan to use it. Most owners run a red dot or an LPVO on this platform.
