KelTec has always done things their own way, and the PR-3AT is a perfect example of that. Introduced at SHOT Show 2026, it takes the legacy of the original P3AT (the pistol that essentially launched the entire pocket .380 craze) and rebuilds it around the same top-loading, magazine-free platform from their PR-57. The result is a carry gun with a completely different approach to how it feeds, and a lot of advantages that come with it.
Because there's no box magazine living inside the grip, the frame stays incredibly narrow at just under an inch wide. That grip width is a big deal for concealment and all-day comfort. Rounds go in through the ejection port using two included 7-round stripper clips, and you can load 13 rounds into the grip plus one in the chamber. The stripper clips index right in and push the rounds down into the internal feed system, so speed reloads aren't as complicated as they might sound once you've practiced them a few times.
The "PR" in the name stands for Pistol Rotating, and the locked-breech rotating barrel is a key part of what makes this gun work the way it does. The barrel rotates approximately 15 to 20 degrees during each firing cycle, which smooths out the recoil impulse noticeably compared to a straight blowback .380. That's a real benefit in a pistol this light. The trigger is double-action only, rated at 4.5 lbs, and the only external control besides the trigger is a single slide stop on the left side. No manual safety, no magazine release to fumble with. KelTec deliberately kept the controls minimal because fewer things to manage under stress is a feature, not a shortcut.
The green frame version pairs an OD green polymer frame with a black slide and is optics-ready out of the box. Fixed front and rear sights are included, but the sight block can be swapped to accommodate an RMSc-pattern optic if you want to add a dot down the road. The grip features KelTec's signature waffle-pattern texturing for a secure hold. At 5.58 inches long and 9.66 oz unloaded, it is genuinely a carry-all-day gun that won't wear you out or print through a t-shirt.
The PR-3AT uses a top-loading system where rounds are fed directly into the grip through the open ejection port. KelTec includes two 7-round stripper clips that index into the action and let you push a full load of rounds down into the internal feed system in seconds. You can also load rounds individually one at a time if needed. Once you run through the loading process a couple times it becomes pretty natural.
The rotating barrel is the mechanical heart of the PR-3AT's operating system. As the gun fires, the barrel rotates approximately 15 to 20 degrees during the cycling process, which helps manage the recoil impulse and keeps the felt recoil softer than what you'd get from a straight blowback design. For a lightweight .380 that clocks in under 10 ounces unloaded, that's a meaningful difference in how the gun shoots.
Yes, the PR-3AT ships with a standard fixed-sight rear block, but the design is built to accept an RMSc-pattern optic in its place. The Defender version of the PR-3AT comes from KelTec with a Viridian RFX1 green dot already installed if you want to skip the aftermarket route. The base model with fixed sights like this one gives you the option to add a dot later without requiring any machining.
The PR-3AT comes in under an inch wide at 0.944", which is genuinely slim for a pistol with 13+1 capacity. For comparison, the Ruger LCP Max holds 10+1 and weighs slightly more. The PR-3AT trades the familiar magazine-swap reload for a higher on-board round count in a comparable or smaller package overall. It's a different tradeoff, but the numbers on paper are competitive with anything in the micro .380 category.
