KelTec has always had a knack for doing things differently, and the PR-3AT is a prime example. Introduced at SHOT Show 2026, this compact .380 ACP pistol ditches the traditional detachable box magazine in favor of a top-loading internal magazine fed by reusable 7-round stripper clips. Because there's no magazine well eating up grip space, the frame stays incredibly slim at just 0.944 inches wide while still holding 13+1 rounds of .380 ACP on board. That's more capacity than most double-stack micro-pistols, in a grip narrower than most single-stacks.
The rotary barrel and locked-breech action are the two other key pieces of this puzzle. The rotating barrel design helps manage felt recoil, which is a real benefit in a pistol this light. At 9.66 ounces unloaded, small-framed guns can feel snappy, but the locked-breech rotary setup helps smooth that out. The double-action-only trigger has no manual safety, keeping the controls minimal: just the trigger and a single-sided slide stop on the left side of the frame. There's also a loaded magazine indicator at the bottom of the grip, so you can visually and physically confirm the gun is charged.
Sights are fixed front and rear with a white front post, and the slide cover is optics-ready with an RMSc-pattern footprint for those who want to add a mini red dot down the road. Yes, the standard PR-3AT slide cover is optics-ready with an RMSc-pattern footprint, so you can swap on a compatible mini red dot without gunsmithing. The included polymer sight block can be removed and replaced with an optic plate. KelTec also offers a Defender package that ships with a factory-installed Viridian RFX1 green dot if you want a ready-to-run optic out of the box.
The name is a nod to KelTec's legendary P-3AT, which was one of the guns that helped launch the entire micro-.380 pocket pistol category. The new PR-3AT is not a direct update to that platform, though. KelTec took the .380 ACP chambering from the P-3AT and combined it with the rotary-barrel, top-loading design from its newer PR-5.7, resulting in an all-new pistol that's more modern in every way.
It can work for pocket carry thanks to its slim profile and light weight, though its 4.38-inch height with the grip extension is worth accounting for depending on your pockets and pants. The matte finish and smooth overall shape help avoid snagging on fabric. For the most minimalist pocket carry option, KelTec also offers the shorter PR-3AT 10 variant, though that model gives up three rounds of capacity for a notably shorter grip.
