Fifteen rounds of 12 gauge in a package barely over two feet long. That is the whole pitch with the Kel-Tec KSG, and more than a decade after it first turned heads, nothing else in the pump gun world really matches it. The bullpup layout tucks the action behind the pistol grip, so you get a full 18.5 inch barrel in a 26.1 inch overall length. For working around doorways, hallways, or a truck cab, that difference over a traditional pump is something you feel immediately.
Two magazine tubes sit under the barrel, each holding seven 2.75 inch shells or six 3 inch shells. A selector lever behind the trigger guard lets you choose which tube feeds, which opens up some smart options. Run buckshot in one tube and slugs in the other, then switch on demand. Ejection is straight down through the bottom of the stock, so there is no brass flying past your face regardless of which shoulder you run it from. Lefties get a genuinely ambidextrous shotgun without any workarounds.
The receiver is hardened steel with the magazine tubes welded in place, while the grip and stock assembly is glass reinforced nylon that keeps the empty weight down to 6.9 pounds. This tan version wears a Cerakote finish over the metalwork with matching polymer furniture, and it looks sharp in person. Picatinny rails run along the top and the bottom of the pump, ready for a red dot up top and a light or vertical grip below. A soft rubber butt pad takes the sting out of stout loads, and takedown is simple: push out two pins, which store in holes in the grip so you never lose them.
No sights come installed, and that is by design. Most owners drop a red dot or a set of flip-up irons on the top rail and call it done. Built-in sling loops front and rear plus the included basic sling round out a shotgun that is ready for the range or the bedside with very little fuss.
The KSG uses two magazine tubes that each hold seven 2.75 inch shells, giving you 14+1 total with one in the chamber. If you run 3 inch magnum shells, capacity is six per tube for 12+1. That is roughly double what a traditional single-tube defensive pump carries.
There is a manual selector lever located behind the trigger guard that determines which tube feeds the action. Flip it one way to feed from the left tube, the other way for the right, and center it to block both for administrative handling. A lot of owners load buckshot in one tube and slugs in the other so they can swap loads on the fly.
No sights are installed from the factory. The full-length top Picatinny rail is ready for whatever you prefer, and most people mount a red dot or a set of flip-up iron sights. The bottom rail on the pump handles a weapon light or vertical foregrip.
Yes, and it is one of the best pump guns out there for southpaws. The patented downward ejection drops empties straight out the bottom of the stock instead of throwing them sideways, so it runs the same from either shoulder. The cross bolt safety and pump are easy to work from either side as well.
