A 12 gauge with a full 18.5 inch barrel that comes in at just over 26 inches overall is a rare thing, and that is exactly what makes the KS7 such a standout. KelTec built it as the single tube, slimmed down cousin to the KSG, and it earned enough respect to take home an NRA Golden Bullseye for Shotgun of the Year. The Gen 2 takes that proven bullpup layout and fixes the things owners had been asking about since day one. This version wears tan furniture over a black barrel, so it stands apart from the usual wall of all black defensive shotguns.
The old carry handle is gone, replaced with a flat, continuous Picatinny top rail that makes mounting a red dot simple. Underneath, the redesigned forend hides a five slot rail segment beneath a removable cap, so you can bolt on a vertical grip or light and keep things smooth and snag free when you take it off. KelTec also smoothed out the pump stroke, and the softer recoil pad takes real sting out of stout loads, which matters on a 6.8 pound 12 gauge. Downward ejection keeps the whole gun ambidextrous, and the slide release sits right in front of the trigger guard where either hand can reach it.
The 3 inch chamber gives you 6+1 on board, or bump that to 7+1 with 2-3/4 inch shells, which covers everything from light target loads to serious buckshot. Since the action balances right over the grip, it points fast and swings through doorways and tight hallways in a way a traditional 26 inch shotgun never could. Home defense is the obvious job here, but it also makes a handy truck gun or camp companion where space is at a premium. Yes. The bullpup design feeds and ejects from a single port on the underside of the receiver, so nothing gets thrown across a left handed shooter's face. The slide release in front of the trigger guard is ambidextrous as well, making it easy to run from either shoulder.
