The Gen 2 takes a design that already won awards and fixes the stuff owners kept asking about. The two big additions are rails. A Picatinny rail now runs across the top, ready for a red dot or backup sights instead of relying on the fiber optic front alone. Underneath, the redesigned forend hides a five slot rail section behind a removable cap, so you can bolt on a vertical grip or light when you want it and keep the slick profile when you don't. KelTec also refined the pump stroke for smoother, faster cycling, and the softer recoil pad takes a lot of the sting out of heavy loads, which matters on a gun this light.
At 6.8 pounds unloaded and 26.1 inches overall, the KS7 Gen 2 handles like nothing else in the safe. The Gen 2 adds a full-length top Picatinny rail for optics, a redesigned forend with a hidden five slot rail for vertical grips or lights, a smoother refined pump action, and a softer recoil pad. The core design is unchanged, so it's still a single tube bullpup pump gun with downward ejection. Think of it as the same gun with the most requested upgrades built in from the factory.
The single magazine tube holds 6+1 with 3 inch shells or 7+1 with 2-3/4 inch shells. That's impressive capacity for a shotgun that measures just 26.1 inches overall. It also feeds mini shells, though a mini shell adapter is recommended for reliable cycling.
Yes, it's one of the more lefty-friendly pump guns out there. Shells load and eject straight down through the same port behind the grip, so nothing gets thrown across your face. The slide release is ambidextrous too, and the bullpup balance feels the same from either shoulder.
That's one of the biggest Gen 2 upgrades. The integrated top Picatinny rail accepts red dots, backup iron sights, or whatever optic setup you prefer, no gunsmithing needed. If you'd rather run it bare, the included fiber optic front sight works fine on its own.
