Description

Kel-Tec took everything people liked about the original P50 and fixed everything they didn't. The KP50 ditches the old top-hinged loading setup for a drop-free, bottom-insert magazine system, so reloads are quick and familiar instead of a two-handed puzzle. It still feeds from the same FN P90-pattern 50-round translucent mags, and this braced Tan package includes two of them along with Kel-Tec's Jungle Clip, which joins the pair back to back for 100 rounds on the gun. Even fully loaded with both mags clipped together, the whole rig comes in around 5.6 pounds.

Built Smarter Than the Original P50

The KP50 uses machined receiver construction with minimal polymer, and the new lower houses a fully machined trigger group based on Kel-Tec's proven SU16 design, breaking at roughly 6.5 pounds. Controls are laid out sensibly with an ambidextrous manual safety, and the rear AR-style charging handle keeps the manual of arms simple. Up top you get a full-length Picatinny rail ready for a red dot or whatever optic setup you prefer.

A 9.6 Inch Barrel That Lets the 5.7 Stretch Its Legs

The 5.7x28mm cartridge rewards barrel length, and the KP50's 9.6 inch tube with a 1:7 twist sits right in the sweet spot for the round, pulling noticeably more velocity than the short-barreled 5.7 pistols out there. The muzzle is threaded 1/2×28, so adding a suppressor or muzzle device is a five minute job, and suppressed 5.7 out of this platform is genuinely one of the more entertaining range experiences you can have. Recoil is soft enough that fast follow-up shots feel almost effortless.

Why the Braced KP50 Package Makes Sense

The factory side-folding brace attaches to the rear Picatinny interface and folds the whole package down from 28.3 inches to 18.6 inches, which makes it easy to stash in a pack or truck bag. Between the Tan finish, the folding brace, the pair of 50-round mags, and the Jungle Clip, this is the most complete KP50 configuration Kel-Tec offers straight out of the box. If high-capacity 5.7 fun is what you're after, this one checks every box.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the Kel-Tec KP50 different from the original P50?

The KP50 is a full redesign, not just a facelift. The biggest change is the new bottom-insert, drop-free magazine system that replaces the old clamshell top-loading setup, making reloads much faster and more intuitive. Kel-Tec also moved to machined receiver construction and added a fully machined trigger group based on their SU16 design.

What magazines does the KP50 use?

It feeds from FN P90-pattern 50-round translucent magazines that ride horizontally along the top of the gun. This braced package includes two of them, plus the Jungle Clip that joins both mags together for 100 rounds on board. Aftermarket P90-pattern mags are widely available, so keeping spares loaded is easy.

Can I mount a suppressor on the KP50?

Yes, the 9.6 inch barrel comes threaded 1/2×28 TPI, which is one of the most common thread pitches out there. The 5.7x28mm round is a favorite for suppressed shooting since it's soft recoiling and the longer barrel wrings out solid velocity. Just make sure your can is rated for 5.7x28mm pressures.

Does the Kel-Tec KP50 come with sights?

It ships optics ready with a full-length Picatinny rail running along the top, but no sights are installed from the factory. Most owners mount a red dot, which pairs really well with the flat-shooting 5.7 round. Backup irons or a magnifier will also mount right up if you want more options.
