The Kinetic Development Group MREX MkII 6.5" is the rail a lot of SCAR owners wish came from the factory. It bolts onto the front of your barrel assembly and extends the handguard 6.5 inches past the upper receiver, replacing those chunky removable rail sections with a slim, one-piece M-LOK setup. The result is a SCAR that actually feels good in your hands, with plenty of room to run a support-side grip out front without your fingers landing on sharp rail teeth.
KDG built the MkII off years of feedback from both commercial and military users. The big change over the original MREX is M-LOK coverage running the full length of the rail, including new slots at the 2 and 10 o'clock positions that also help shield your hand from the gas block. The old full-length Picatinny top rail is gone, swapped for M-LOK so you mount only what you need where you need it, with a stepped-down section up front for lights and lasers. There's a flat bottom for a stable rest and integral QD points for slinging up.
The handguard is machined from 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum and finished in a Type III hard-coat anodized black. It's a proven design that maintains zero for electronic optics and adds virtually no weight compared to the factory setup, so your rifle's balance stays where you like it. Overall length runs 13.34 inches and it weighs in around 8.5 ounces. It fits both the SCAR 16S and 17S, and it's 100% made in the USA.
Installation is more involved than swapping an optic, but it's very doable at home. The MkII was simplified over the first-gen MREX with less hardware in unnecessary spots, and once it's mounted to the barrel assembly it stays put so you keep your quick-change barrel function. Plan on a basic teardown of the upper, a T25 torque bit, and following KDG's instructions. Anyone comfortable with routine SCAR maintenance can knock it out.
Yes. This handguard is designed to fit both the SCAR 16S and 17S platforms. The 6.5" length is the full-size extension, making it a good match for standard and longer barrel setups on either rifle.
Most owners can do this at home. It requires a basic teardown of the upper and a T25 torque bit, and KDG designed the MkII to use less hardware than the original for easier installation. If you're comfortable with routine SCAR maintenance, you'll be fine following the instructions.
It does. Once the MREX MkII is torqued to your barrel assembly, it stays attached to the barrel, so you keep the SCAR's quick-change barrel function and can swap configurations as needed.
The full-length 12 o'clock Picatinny was replaced with M-LOK slots for more flexible mounting. There's still a stepped-down section up front for lights and lasers, and you can add M-LOK Picatinny sections wherever you want rail using the two included pieces.
Very little. KDG designed it so there's essentially no weight penalty compared to the factory rail sections, and the whole unit runs around 8.5 ounces. Your rifle's balance and handling stay right where you expect.
